Dry Erase boards outside the cabin

Did anybody use these OUTSIDE of your cabin? Just wondering if this is a good idea. We will have two cabins and are trying to figure out the easiest way to communicate.

Looks like Walkie Talkies don't work very well.

Not everybody has a phone, so social media messaging won't work.

We don't need to be in constant contact with each other every moment of the day, just trying to figure out an easy "1:00p- playing Bingo" kinda way to communicate.

Or would it be better to figure out a way to for the kids to have room access to our cabin and just write notes INSIDE?

thoughts?? :)

I can only imagine every other message being posted other than your intention.

Save your white board for inside, or drop the idea altogether. It's not hard tracking down family members. Even as big as these ship are, as most areas are passenger cabins.

Agreed....and the Miracle is such a small ship.

People really steal these?? wow. They cost like... 99 cents! LOL

Just trying to keep things simple. I need some way to keep track of each other. I can't even keep track of where my DH is, much less the three kids! :D

You can't picture a couple of teenagers ripping this off your door? Believe me, it isn't the cost of the item, it is the prank.

I don't know how old your children are, but your idea of sticky notes inside the cabin is better, or what someone else suggested with the phone...which I have done many times. You can get an extra pass key to the cabin at guest services.

The Miracle is not a very large ship....I bet you are constantly passing each other without even trying...lol.

Have a GREAT time.:):):)

Our neighbors on our last cruise had one. Every morning it was filled with vulgar messages from the night before. I guess the drunks returning from the bars could not resist it.

I'm just trying to avoid having to have the kids access our cabin. Just want to keep things simple.

We've been on the Miracle, but this will be the first time where the kids can sign themselves in/out of Camp Carnival themselves. I hate the thought of them wandering all around the ship to every possible location we could be to find us. (and vice versa). It may be a smaller ship in comparison to others, but finding us/them could still take a long time.

We are going to be very far FORWARD, so there will be very little foot traffic in front of our cabin.

Hmmm...

OK, I'll keep thinking about this one. Thanks! :D

Since your room is out of the way you, might be able to get away with the whiteboards. The one I saw getting abused was in a high traffic area.

1. You don't have phones

2. You don't want to rely on walkie talkies

3. You don't want the kids to have access to the cabins

4. This leaves no access to phone messages

5. No access to sticky notes

6. You choose to have them sign themselves out

and yet a board on the door makes sense? I do wish you the best in finding an answer. The dry erase board (to ME) is your most dangerous option....but thats just me.

OUR cabin. Not their cabin. :) I'm not against them having access to our cabin for a specific reason, other than just trying to keep things simple.

Just thinking of all of our options and what would be easiest. Getting opinions of others of what as worked and what hasn't. I'm still open to any of these ideas, (besides buying the kids their own phones.)

I never though of leaving messages on the actual cabin phones, as I really don't ever use them.

Just try it. If it gets filled with messages you didn't put, then you'll know it didn't work.

I too let my kids sign out of camp...but with very strict rules about where they are allowed and not allowed. Pools were strictly off limits without an adult's presence. Getting a burger or taco was fine, but there wasn't much more that we would let them do. They didn't need to be running around in the shops or casino, playing with the elevators, or hide 'n go seek in the lounge. The sports area was too windy to enjoy so that just left the lido deck. For the evening movies, it was a great place to be, but during the day a kid would find it boring. So all in all, they just stayed at camp [emoji4]

It helped to talk about our activities in the morning, for example: I'm doing breakfast, the some trivia time etc.

We did plan a family lunch time, and found an area in the lido that we could normally get seats, so the boys would just come at the time appropriate.

The phone system actually works very well. If you can't come up with an alternative resolution, give it a try the day of embarkation. You can practice. Call THEIR phone from YOUR cabin and leave a message. When they go to their cabin and see the red light flashing, it tells them there is a message. They just press the button.:) EASY PEASY

We used post it notes on the Dream last year, just stick a small stack and a pen on the little holder outside the door, no one ever messed with it and worked great!

We had 2 neighbors with dry erase boards on their doors on the Sunshine in January. It seemed to be working for them. They wrote "Hi from Jane and John" on their board. The most anyone else wrote was a return greeting. If you try the board and it doesn't work take it down and revert to the phone messages. :)

And in case you didn't know, you do not have to leave a message from your cabin phone.

There are "public" phones throughout the ship. Just call the cabin number from one of these and leave a message.

Thanks for asking this question! We are on the imagination in 21 days and its my DS 12 first cruise. I was pondering exactly this so now I have some great ideas on how to keep in contact with him. We are coming from Canada and not bringing our cell phones as the roaming fees are stupid!

On a couple group cruises the coordinator used one... It was hit or miss on the drunken doodlers... The short cruises they had some really obscene stuff written and one stolen, high traffic areas also had that issue... When the cabin was more out of the way, and on the longer cruises no issues... Guess it depends...

On our last cruise there were 4 cabins that were together. They all had the boards and they were never filled with anything vulgar. I did write on one in small letters Hi neighbour but that was it. The only problem that they had was the magnet was not on very well and they all fell off. They put them in the railing but if you do go that route I would take the magnet off and re-attach them with a stronger glue and maybe add some more magnets.
