Draught Beer on HAL Ships?

Given the popularity of Craft Beers and Microbrews, I was a little disappointed to find only cans and bottles of rather ordinary beers on our Nieuw Amsterdam cruise last November. Molson Canadian cans seemed like the best I could find! Do any ships have good beer on tap and/or will the re-fits of the Eurodam and NA include such? Was it already available and I just missed it?

The smaller ships have beer bars in mix, but there aren't much more than a half dozen choices on tap. Alaska cruises are an exception and you'll find Alaskan draft beer available. It'll still only be a few choices though. Holland America really isn't a beer crowd. I doubt they'd go through enough craft beer to make it worthwhile.

The Casino bar (on those ships that have one) used to have beer on tap. But evidently when you were on the NA you didn't make it to the SeaView bar (aft of the Lido) where a dozen or so imports are available. I did enjoy the Boddington's Pub Ale and the Guinness, for example, when we were on her in December.

I used to be a regular beer drinker. However, I still check what brews are offered, by can and by draught. As POA1 stated, ships that have the MIX venue had a much larger variety of draught beers available than I ever recall seeing. Most of the brands I did not recognize. But, sitting at the Bar, I noticed many were ordered often.

 

On the Prinsendam, I did not "sit" at any of the bars on the ship, so I don't know what was available. I saw a small number of taps, but what they dispensed, I don't know.

I did not get to the Casino or Sports bar on the last cruise, sounds like I should have! I tended to go to the Ocean Bar and the Silk Den (the bartender there, Chryz, was a hoot). I did try the Boddington's at the Seaview but I was not a big fan. I also was never quite in a Guniness mood. I was really looking for a nice, hoppy IPA like Surly Furious or Bell's Two Hearted. I will explore more on the next cruise!

I have been unimpressed with the condition of draft beer on Holland America and wondered if it does not move quickly enough. A bottle of Grolsch is my go to beer on HAL.

I did not even realize they sold draft beer.......

If you look at the artist renderings of the Dutch Cafe on Koningsdam, it looks like they will have draft beer. Will have to wait and see in 4 weeks.
