Majesty of the Seas June 6th Sailing Observations

Recommended Posts

Observations from onboard the Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas.

Embarkation at Port Canaveral was very efficient. I think we were on the ship within 40 minutes of getting to the terminal.

This is not a small ship yet if feels like a small one. Not to be confused with intimate, it's small and crowded in all public areas especially on the pool deck.

We have stayed in a couple of inside cabins so are use to smaller quarters but this outside cabin is terribly small. The ship has only one deck with balcony staterooms.

The splash pad was not opened until 10:00 and is super small.

The little ankle deep pool directly in front of the screen still is not open.

The ice cream machine was not making ice cream until about 10:00 and ran out within 20 minutes. We are waiting again for more to freeze. Silly set up with only one machine.

Food so far has been mediocre at best. Windjammer is very small and the variety of food is very limited. Breakfast at Windjammer was ok. Hoping lunch will be better.

The welcome aboard show last night was enjoyable.

The Kids Club was pretty lame but the boys are taking one for the team and have agreed to go in for an hour or two in order for us to hit the casino.

Speaking of the casino it is larger then ither RCCL ships I've been on. And I actually won on the slots last night.

The crew in general is not very pleasant. Our stateroom attendant Esther and one of our assistant waiters are the exception.

Best thing so far on the ship is the free Voom WiFi. I am pretty sure future cruises will be charged.

Will add additional observations and answer any questions if you have any. As of now I would not cruise again on this ship or recommend to family, friends or clients.

Interesting that the OP got on the ship around noon yesterday and has already formed opinions on all the crew (with exceptions noted) in less than 24 hours.

Hope it gets better for them. Majesty has some of the best crew in RCI in our experience. The ship is what she is. All the information on cabin size is available on line and there should have been no surprises there.

Just wondering if OP is a TA relative to the comment about clients.

Oh No we are going next Friday...tell me more

We are also going back soon. I see that you are former Sovereign class cruisers. Majesty is every bit like Sovereign and Monarch and the crew the friendliest in the fleet. It feels like going home with the familiar settings and the way the ship is designed.

Last Majesty cruise we did MTD and Windjammer. The food was all good.

I formed an opinion about the crew based on my experience with other cruises and people in general. Yes tge information is out there but until you experience it personally........Maybe an adults only cruise would be ok. Just very disappointed so far. It may get better and it's only for another 3 nights.

That's odd that the "pool is still closed". All pools were open and functional on my cruise. The splash area has certain hours, which are posted in the Compass. I do agree that the rooms are tiny, but I knew this going in. For a quick weekend jaunt, a standard outside cabin was fine for my husband, 12 yr old, and I. I found the food in the Windjammer just okay- breakfast being the best. The fries and rings at Johnny Rockets were very good, the shakes were awesome, and the burger was "eh...". We ate in the dining room the last night (Pomodoro menu) and found it to be very tasty. Overall, I liked the ship and never saw a sour face on the crew or encountered any crew member who was unpleasant. I cruised a lot as a child- Celebrity, HAL, NCL, Princess, Cunard, Regency, but this was my first RCCL. I hadn't cruised since our 2001 honeymoon, so Majesty was the size of ship that I have been used to. I would sail her again, but prefer longer cruises and would like to try Oasis. This 6/6 sailing seems like it has had a bit of bad luck with the weather, a medical emergency causing them to miss CocoCay today, etc according to the cruise director FB page. I hope it gets better!

Windjammer on Majesty seems larger to me than those on Vision and Radiance class ships.

Shower pressure and temperature is great. Two plug outlets by the desk are sooooo old and worn out that we have to use the ice bucket to keep the blow dryer provided by them plugged in.

If I keep winning at the casino I'm sure I won't dislike this ship as much as I do now. Lol

Now see, you should consider yourself lucky- we didn't have an ice bucket on our cruise! Regarding the Windjammer, I found it crowded, but never had trouble finding a table. I just wish people wouldn't be so darn rude and wait their turn in LINE instead of walking up and cutting right in! I didn't think it was small at all, but a very good size. Have you tried the Compass Deli? We never got around to it.

All you would have had to do is ask your cabin attendant. :) Its not automatic anymore and unless you request ice now, there is no bucket.

A lot of people have closets bigger than the regular inside and oceanview cabins on Sovereign class ships  Doesnt sound like there will be a next time but if there is, I highly suggest a deck 9 SOV cabin. 40 more sq ft doesnt sound like a lot but it is. You would find the same lack of balcony cabins on any ship thats 20+ years old :)

Thanks for the tip for next time! In the "olden days", it was automatic. Of course, in those days it was unheard of to have to pay extra for food on ships (except for the ice cream parlour on The Norway)!

I think when they first started doing ice on a request only basis there was a sheet of paper in the cabin on boarding day explaining. I dont recall seeing that paper on my last RC cruise. I like my ice bucket and ice!

we have been on Majesty at least 30 times. Crew is absolutely AMAZING!! It actually won the top service award for the fleet a few years ago. We have never had anything but stellar service on her, many of the staff remember our names and say hi. Staff has always been super friendly to us.

She may be small but we love her. We are happy we now have Enchantment in Miami, but I would never hesitate to go on Majesty again. Great ship for a quick little weekend away:):):)

I seem to remember the Windjammer on Majesty having a front and back section (or am I confusing her with Enchantment) Regardless, I don't remember it being small or crowded.

Hope things improve and the slots keep giving

Show was good last night. Casino was not as generous. Beef tenderloin was very good but all eight of us at the table had luke warm appetizers.

The family we are dining with are disappointed too so its not just my perspective.

I've always heard the horror stories about debarkation but never experienced that of course on Disney or RCCL. Well that string of good fortune ended. What a cluster you know what. That line snaked around the ship, down stairs and even through the main dining room insane.

Coco Cay, the food lines were insane and the food was crummy. No umbrellas on the beach unless you wanted to pay for one. Towels were on deck 5 then you had to go to deck 2 then walk down to 1 to hop on a tender. Towels when you get off the tender would have bed nice and then a bin set up on the island for dirty towels would be nice too. The tender itself was a very easy ride over and back.

Never again on the Majesty. In this case you really do get what you pay for, sadly even less than what you paid for. I have not given up on RCCL since I've enjoyed them in the past and will again hope to enjoy sailing with them in January, our next cruise.

First cruise I was glad to have end.

Ahoy Mateys.....

We are Royal Caribbean cruisers who live in Florida, so we do sail several times in the year. We do agree that the food on some of the ships can be mediocre. We hope that when this happens that you comment on the survey that is sent to your email the day after you leave the ship.

The comments on the survey should include an example of why you feel a certain thing was not up to the Crown & Anchor standard. These surveys are read to the staff.

It is also important to mention the staff by names and departments on the survey as these count towards different rewards on the ship. A tally is kept on each employee.

We keep a list of all the wonderful staff we meet during the week. We meet so many nice staff and we want all of them to be recognized for their work.

Kutchone does have an excellent point about the towels. Many ships will set up a towel station under a canopy on the pier. I really don't understand why all the Royal ships don't offer this service. It would make it much easier.

Kutchone: I sure hope that you mentioned this issue on your survey.

At the same time, we appreciate you letting the cruisers know that they must get a towel before leaving the Majesty ship...

Many cruisers do get off the ship looking for the towels and find out they are not there. They then have to reenter the ship and find the deck with the towels. They then have to get back in a long line to get off the ship a second time....

We surely hope that the debarkation process will improve on the Majesty.

These days many cruisers take the option of walking off the ship with their luggage. The problem lies in that a majority of the passengers have the same idea of getting off at the same time thus causing the long lines.

We have not sailed on the Majesty as of yet, because she is a new ship for us at Port Canaveral. We look forward to sailing on her soon.

We do appreciate all comments to make our cruise a smoother one..

Thank you Cruise Critic posters...
