scapel Posted August 23, 2016 #28 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Thanks for the respinses guys. How would you compare the dining and Wine Experience In Both? I have access to Blu on Celibrity. Celebrity-- We bought our bottles at night. Cost was around $30-$40/bottle since we don't drink expensive ones. Azamara has both what you pay extra for and what is included. Since we are not necessarily wine specialist we just can take whatever. Last Celebrity Cruise we ate in MDR. and it was as good as in the past. I think the food on cruise ships depends on the food service head and the chef communications and how well they get along. Last cruise on Carnival in July was kind of poor. Carnival usually has good food, but the Dream did not. Probably just the chef. People tend to think that food quality is going down on all cruse ships, but I think it is an individual thing. I do remember that on Celebrity the specialty restaurants were very good. Azamara's food has been good on the last two cruises.
workingtocruise-59 Posted August 23, 2016 Author #29 Share Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) We're still debating our decision to try Celebrity. Yes, probably we just need a change. We know the MDR menus on Azamara off by heart and have seen all the production shows (and many of the guest entertainers) many, many times. But I know that the "warm & fuzzy" feeling I get each time I board Azamara will be hard to replicate. If I am not on an Azamara cruise then I'm probably planning the next one.... Book Cabin 6147 on the Millennium or the one on the other side or the same cabin on any of the Millennium class ships https://onedrive.live.com/?id=F6FE23A6E5A9EC3F%211868&cid=F6FE23A6E5A9EC3F There are only two of these suites on each Millennium Class ship-Infinity, Constellation, Summit- These ships are 93,000 GRT and smaller than the next class up, but these cabins get excellent service and complimentary dining in specialty restaurants just like Azamara. These cabins have verandas with 270 degree viewing angles. Make friends with the people in the other Penthouse on the other side and you will have 360 degree viewing angle on the verandas. The Millennium is the same age as the Azamara Quest and probably Journey also. Edited August 24, 2016 by scapel

The OP is going on Eclipse. You can stay in other cabins on Celebrity aside from the M-Class Penthouse Suite and still have an excellent time! Going back to the original post, in general the balconies in all cabins on Eclipse (if you have booked a balcony) are bigger than Azamara, noticeably so if you pick a cabin on the angle of the hump. I rate the MDR food on Azamara as better than Celebrity, but having said that I've rarely had a bad meal on them and if I have a word with the waiter has sorted me out. I'm sure you'll have a great time.
ChucktownSteve Posted August 24, 2016 #32 Share Posted August 24, 2016 We just returned from a 7 night on Celebrity Summit. We ate in Blu on this cruise and our previous cruise on the Constellation this past February. Food varies by ship and crew. Last fall in the MDR on the Summit our food was always overcooked. On the Constellation, Blu was perfectly cooked to temperature. On Summit, Blu was over cooked every night. We're going the opposite direction from Celebrity to Azamara. On this past cruise I went to the future cruise office and inquired about a Panama Cruise in April 2018. They quoted me over $10K for an obstructed balcony. I told them if I wanted to pay that kind of money, I'd sail on Azamara or Oceania and left. We're happily looking forward to our August 2017 Journey cruise! You can stay in other cabins on Celebrity aside from the M-Class Penthouse Suite and still have an excellent time! . Relevance is that Millennium is a ship closer to the size of Azamara. Eclipse is a giant. Penthouse suite gets service equal to Azamara.

Was happy to see we are not the only folks looking to try something new/different I'm certainly not an expert on which cabin to chose...but I'm glad you are trying AZ...we are long term X cruises (Elite Plus..for what that is worth..not much IMO) but FYI...these are much smaller ships that you would be used to on X...so please keep that in mind...)...you might want to consider a "Continental Suite" on AZ...as the "regular" cabins are pretty small ...but still great...but the size of the CS would be much more what you would be used to on X...we love AZ...but TBH...can only sail them for the T/As...as they are much more expensive than X ..IMO!! shedridt Posted August 29, 2016 #47 Share Posted August 29, 2016 My beloved & I have been on quite a few cruises, but nothing to compare to the last poster. Goodness! I shall have to go back to our passports to try to recreate our own cruises, which admittedly have been interspersed with other adventures such as safaris & trips to Antarctica & the Gobi Desert that had nothing to do with cruising, to try to find something that can begin to compete. Well done you! We should have kept a log when we began cruising in 2001, for sure.

Well done you! We should have kept a log when we began cruising in 2001, for sure. I agree, skapel's cruising history is impressive! And I must confess to feeling pangs of nostalgia while reading through the names of those long-gone ships, many of which led the way and set the standards we still honor. I read an article on the Stella Oceanis explaining that with a crew of 140 and a passenger capacity of 300 it's product was 'primarily destination-oriented." Sound familiar? pvkatmom Posted August 30, 2016 #50 Share Posted August 30, 2016 For a while, I thought it was fun to see posters' cruising histories in their "signatures." Then again, it made it take soooooo much longer to get through a thread of posts. Someone ( I forget who, but, God bless them, gave instructions on how to remove the signatures... just search for it on CC). If you look at CC fairly often, as I do, this is a great time-saver.
