Age minimum for gym

Recommended Posts

Haven't sailed RC so I don't know. What is the age minimum to be in the gym. I have both an 11 and 15 yr old who are in cross country (we leave right after school starts and they are already running) and wanted to use the treadmill (since I can't keep up lol) while we are on the cruise.

whatever level has the lifeboats suspended just overhead, that level has a track that goes all the way around the ship, often around 1/3 mile, they may need to be careful or watch their speed in certain spots, but it makes for a more scenic run than the treadmill.

Thanks all. I know they can run around the ship but my 15 yr old runs 6 miles a day and my younger 3. I am a little over protective and I can't keep up with them. Was hoping to take them to the gym. Guess I will figure something else out. :(

Has always been 16, unless it has changed. My son ran on the treadmills when he was 15. He was playing football and swimming at the time. Asked permission and there was no problem. He was a big kid and obviously used to a gym atmosphere and the equipment. You could ask, but be prepared for a refusal, and if so run outside. Basically they don't want kids playing on the equipment.

That is true for Oasis class ships, most ships have the jogging track on an upper deck.

While they are running, you can sit on the same deck, and monitor them. They should pass you about every 5 minutes! I think they gym is 16.

Thank you!!!! I will check and see. I don't mind being in there so that won't be the issue. I am just not a runner. Bad knees.

You're welcome. You may want to take a copy of the PDF file, just in case.

I know that Serenade has their official 'mini' track on 12 (iirc), but I used the deck below the life-boats. The crew didn't seem to care, but I did proceed a bit carefully in places, and it actually had stairs up and down near the helipad.

We walked a lot on deck 4 of the Disney Dream. We loved it. But the girls need to run. We were a group of 19 and some family ran with them since they too were runners. I can only imagine how nice it is to run the ship. This trip it is just the 5 of us. So just trying to think of alternatives.

Interesting, I seem to remember notices saying no running on that deck when we sailed Brilliance and Jewel.

Just remember it says "may be allowed" so it's not a definite yes and you said your youngest is 11 not 13.

I'm with the couple posters who said you could sit somewhere on the same level as the track so you'd see them pass by also, or you could walk and they could say hi as they pass you by. I guess I don't understand the need to run with them, when we travel, I walk and my son runs.

I guess that if they had notices, I and one or two others I saw running, entirely failed to notice them.

I figure that the 15yo can likely run on a treadmill with no issues, and the 11yo will just depend on the staff in the gym. I don't think it's for certain that they would *not* allow the 11yo to use the treadmill. Maybe a day 1 tip/bribe for gym staff would facilitate it(?)

Running that many miles on the jogging track gets dizzying (I've tried it), I do about 3 miles on there before I give up, mostly because people on that deck are disrespectful of the joggers and stand on the track, or walk on it and don't move off when runners are coming. It's not a huge deal to run to the side or whatever, a few times, but when you run 3, 4, 5+ miles and you run fast, you can get around that track in 2 minutes and end up having to stop and go, and jump sideways WAY too often and it ruins the flow of your run.

I would have the girls use the treadmill, as long as they know how to use the equipment and aren't screwing around on it, nobody is going to mind.

I think it took me 1 1/2 to 2 min on the Adventure track, but I know some people who could get around it in 30 seconds probably, haha. That is, if people who weren't using the track wouldn't stand in the way.

I came into this thread, wondering myself, but congrats on having 2 cross country runners. They are the nicest people in general. I believe as another has said 16, but that may be unescorted. I've seen what I have to assume are younger kids who were working out with other adults, again assuming they were their parents.

I don't know what ship your on, but true cross country runners will love running on the top deck of the ship if that is where the track is. 50mph head win and a 30 mile per hour tailwind going the other way is fun!

The only ship with a track bigger than a 1/3rd mile is the Oasis class ones. Freedom use to be close to 1/4 mile, but after the refit its more like 1/6th mile.

What class of ship? On Voyager or Freedom class. You could sit near the pool and they would be out of site for only a few seconds.

Both my kids are cross country runners and needed to train on our cruise earlier this summer. My 13 yr old was fine with the track up top on Freedom, but my 17 yr old, who needed more mileage, ran several miles on the track, several on a treadmill, and also mixed in some intervals up and down the stairs on a couple days. He only did the stairs when he was up early, and no one was about. They won't be out of your sight for more than a minute if you sit on a lounge chair right next to the track. I think they would have gone nuts running all that mileage on just a treadmill! Cross country runners are famous for their dislike of treadmills 😉
