In what order is on board credit spent

Due to certain circumstances I will have a combination of refundable and non refundable on board credit. I wanted to know if there is a particular order in which this credit is spent and how you get refunded if you don't use all of the credit.

Just got off of the Getaway. Your Daily Service Charge (DSC) of $13.50 is only taken off of REFUNDABLE OBC. Non-Refundable is never used for the DSC. Other cruise lines do use Non-Refundable for DSC, such as Celebrity, Princess and RCI.

Most lines use refundable first..then you're left with the NON refundable...that's the smartest business way....

Just make sure that you use the same smartest business way - try to leave the ship with a ZERO balance on your account.

Use your personal or travel agents promos to use the refundable portion first.

The refundable on board expense can be used without restrictions on anything

you purchase UBP - bar/restaurant drinks - SDP and extras - shore ex - internet use - gifts and duty free - casino charges - room service charges and more.

The non refundable portion is usually a NCL restricted promo and will not be refunded but can be used to purchase some of the refundable items but caution not all.

Since this is a use it or lose it deal - needless to say use it to purchase gift and duty free items and tip selected crew members.

AND YES NCL uses your free OBC first and then is stingy at the end letting you use their OBC !

Non-refundable first, refundable second, except as noted below. NCL had to cut me a check after our last cruise (June 2015) because we had ~$300 unused refundable OBC from our travel agent. :D

The daily service charge will come out of refundable OBC only. So if you only have enough refundable OBC to cover the daily service charges, then it is all spoken for. Any additional refundable OBC will be spent last.

I don't understand what you're saying here. When you buy something on board, you don't get to tell them which portion of your OBC they should charge it to. They decide, and they don't do it the way you and cb at sea are suggesting. It would mean that NCL would always deduct the full amount of everyone's non-refundable OBC before issuing any credit refunds after the cruise. This board would be in flames, constantly, and there would be nothing but threads about that (plus bottled water and lobster :p).

It's simply not true, ask anyone who has actually been in this situation.

Apologies I used my recent NCL DAWN trip as reference.

I had $300 OBC provided by my TA

I paid the DSC for everyone in my cabin

I bought the Next Cruise Promo

I bought several gifts and duty free items

I watched the TV channel account as the gifts promos OBC ebbed and flowed

back and forth on my on board account

I cashed Travel Checks to augment my account to a plus balance

The last day of the cruise I cashed out the credit balance

Walked off the ship the next day with a ZERO balance

So I apologize in that I can not determine at each moment which OBC was

being used line by line in the end I got a refund of the OBC balance

so you and the other posters are right in that the NON OBC must have been

used first and thus leaving me a refundable OBC balance !

Apology my post was not correct and misleading.
