Dajo5601 Posted November 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2016 Hi folks. During the past three years we've been to Venice on four occasions and whilst the magic of the City and the magic of the famous Square have always been a pleasure to us, when we are scheduled to visit on our next QE cruise we are thinking of getting out of the City. Our thoughts have turned to a visit to the Murano Glass Factory and we would appreciate any views on our idea. It's a little too early to view any Cunard trips to the factory (if indeed they do them) and we are not adverse to making our own way to the factory. Any tips, hints, suggestions, etc., would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks, David.

If you look on the Destinations page on Cunard's website, it does show an excursion to the Murano Glass Factory. It includes a visit to Burano. http://www.cunard.co.uk/destinations/regions/mediterranean-cruises/venice/
Henderson1 Posted November 1, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2016 David, we did Burano on our own as we'd been to Venice a few times. Caught shuttle boat to St Marks then couple of bridges along vaparetto to Burano, changing boats on the way but all run to time, you get off one, jump on another. Spent a good few hours wandering round, had a lovely lunch the did thd return. An excellent day out Jackie
Host Hattie Posted November 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 1, 2016 We've been to both Murano and Burano via vaporetto, they are both easy to do on your own.
Underwatr Posted November 1, 2016 #5 Share Posted November 1, 2016 A single trip on the vaporetto is 7.5 Euros. A bit of a waste if you're just heading down the Grand Canal but compared to what the ship will charge for an excursion to Murano it's an absolute bargain. The daily pass is 20 Euros. A trip to Murano and back plus the obligatory trip down the Canal and you've saved a small amount of cash. Add in a side trip to Burano and you're miles ahead. Pushka Posted November 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2016 Agree, do Murano and Burano on your own using the Vaporetto. Extremely easy and fun to do and without the masses on the excursion - it is busy enough without travelling with a whole group of others.
NSWP Posted November 2, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2016 Done Burano/Murano twice over the years on Med Cruises, Ruby Princess and Arcadia. Sorry but IMO they are tourist traps, but I am no expert on glass and lace. The boss is a bit of an expert on glass/lace and she thought it ovepriced. We did them via ships shorex. I enjoyed the launch ride over to the islands.
Pushka Posted November 2, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 2, 2016 They are only tourist traps if you buy something you don't want ;)
Flamencacha Posted November 2, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2016 Another option is the Green line by alilaguna. For € 20 they take you to three islands. Murano they will take you to a glass factory and then on your own, Next stop Burano for awhile on your own. Then Torcello, also on your own. They have guides onboard to prepare you for your stops. I have done the vaporetto before. For a quick tour of the three I would try this. I thought it was pretty decent.
