cruzingramma Posted January 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2017 Once we board at our home port are we allowed to disembark and walk around the area, or do we have to remain on the ship? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
bandtaxi Posted January 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2017 (edited) We have always been allowed to leave the ship in San Juan and assumed that could be done everywhere, but apparently that is not the case. When we tried to leave the ship in New York, we were told that we would have to go through the entire boarding process again. Other ports we've sailed from did not have areas around the ship to go to. Edited January 30, 2017 by bandtaxi

Micahs Grandad Posted January 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2017 You have your sign and sail card so if the port allows this you should just have to go thru security. Most ports there is nothing close by so no reason to do this.
Kittybork Posted January 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2017 Guests wishing to sightsee after boarding the ship on embarkation day After checking in and boarding the ship, if a guest wishes to disembark the ship to sightsee at the home port, they may do so as long as they return at least 30 minutes prior to ship departure. They will need to carry with them the following: Travel documents including photo ID Sail & Sign card Check-In Boarding Pass https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1372/~/embarkation-terminal-check-in-procedures
HawkIVette Posted January 30, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2017 We did in Seattle on our Alaskan Cruise. We were on the ship before 11:00 am, so we got off and got a cab and went down to Pikes Market. Sight seeing and bought soda for the cruise. Rare rafinmd Posted January 30, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 30, 2017 The biggest issue may be in Vancouver on Alaska cruises. You actually clear US immigration as you board the ship. If you want to leave you must clear Canadian immigration when leaving and US immigration when reboarding. Roy
tonit964 Posted January 30, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2017 We did in Seattle on our Alaskan Cruise. We were on the ship before 11:00 am, so we got off and got a cab and went down to Pikes Market. Sight seeing and bought soda for the cruise. We got on the ship early and the embarkation photo stand was not set up yet so once on the ship, we asked security if we could go out to get our photo as that's the only one we buy and he said no, they were not set up for scanning the cards "out" only "in". RiotAct Posted January 30, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 30, 2017 Galveston is departure port Sent from my iPad using Forums Just got back from the 7-day Breeze sailing that departed out of Galveston; I don't think the normal (Deck 0) gangway was open during the embarkation process, just the Deck 3 gangway that drops you off into the atrium area next to Guest Services after a long walk up a winding jetbridge-type walkway. So, you'd have to go through the entire boarding process again it appears.
Rudyard Posted January 31, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 31, 2017 What you could always do is just drop off your bags and check in later. Since it's Galveston, it's just a short walk to the Strand from the terminal. Plenty to keep you busy there for a while until you are ready to board.
