Erroneous, and Deceptive Billing Practices by NCL.

Thanks for the additional details. In particular, from your first message it wasn't clear whether you disputed the charges on board and/or with customer relations post-cruise. I assumed the offer of future cruise OBC came from NCL shoreside; I've never heard of the front desk offering that on board (and frankly I would be suspicious of their ability to put that through). Since you were still on board, they should have adjusted your folio right there.

The folio amounts that you mentioned don't seem to include any tips, once you subtract $1000 casino, $128 excursion, laundry, t-shirts, etc. Unless you had some other credit (you mentioned a gift shop credit above, was that correctly applied to your onboard gift shop purchases?) Then I guess there could be $100 in tip in there somewhere. But if that's the case, then I'm not seeing $200 in eligible purchases to use up your CAS credit.

Anyway, did you end up paying them the balance on the final folio, $1174.93? And how much do you think you should have paid? And how much future OBC did they offer you?

Great eyes Hawkeyetlse!

Yes my balance should have been $1097.93 (casino +gratuities). It was showing $29.87 in my favor. Even so, I tried (severaltimes) to point this out. I guess I could have spent another $29.87 in hopesthat it would even out.

I glad I didn’t. The next folio (when Shore Excursiondiscount applied) showed $157.33 in the favor of NCL. The final folio was$107.00 in their favor. With $149.67 ofUnused (lost) Non-Fundable Onboard Credit.

The offer for future OBC was made by Customer Relations (onshore) not onboard staff. But neither onboard of shore staff will even look at oneof the folios to see that it contains errors.

The OBC offer is for $200.00 to be used on one cruise within12 months. (Restrictions apply.) On topof all this – I had $35.00 in slot points “to be applied to your final bill”that were NOT applied. Apparently there were ‘restrictions’ (that were notpublished).

All in all a very frustratingcruise. Spending most of my time trying to get someone to even look at theerrors, and not knowing if/how my credits would be applied, and if I shouldeven chance making any purchases.

While I hope this never happens again, one thing to consider in the future is asking for the ship's purser (or NCL equivalent, purser is the position on Princess). This is basically the person in charge of all finances on the ship. We had to do this to clear up an issue on Princess, once that person was involved the issue took less than 10 mins.

  • 11 months later...

Old thread that's been revived here but I will add that this is mainly a problem for casino cruisers and that's why many others have not had this experience.

I have had the OP's exact experience on several occasions but always let it go, as frustrating as it is. What happens is the system automatically uses your obc for things that will be getting credited back (from the casino). On the last night when credits post to your account (from the casino) the system goes a little wonky and reapplies some credits but not all come off correctly. I have had bills where I spent thousands of dollars on shore excursions, duty free store, kids club charges, liquor upcharges (gotta love a good scotch) etc etc yet somehow I showed "unused" NRC... that's madness!

Of course you don't know this is a problem until you get that final bill morning of disembarkation (all was correct when you went to bed) and too late can't do anything about it because it's mayhem in the lobby. Don't think NCL is trying to deceive us but more of a case where the system is a little glitchy when late credits apply.

The short version of his post...

"I did not read what my no-refundable OBC was good for and now I am mad"

No, you still don't get it. I've had the same problem and I track everything I charge. This is glitch with CAS giving us credits on the last evening problem. I've went and got a bill the evening before disembarkation and then woken up to a bill that had the 'unused non-refundable credit'. This is NOT because I don't understand how to use it.

The CAS host also understands how it works when they are calculating what they can credit us. It's all a matter of what the computer applies and in what order. I now plan on getting up early that last morning to check that last bill, and then if needed, I run down to the desk and get in the line. Every time I've been able to get it corrected....but I do lose some sleep that last morning.

Happily surprised on my last month's Escape cruise...it worked perfect without a trip to the counter.

The new shore excursion discounts for your level are not automatic if you purchase a tour before boarding. I had to call the Shore Excursion department within 5 minutes of selecting my shore excursions on line to cancel my tours because of this problem. Instead, we reserved the tours with payment to be made on board. And I was advised to check if my Latitude discount is applied to my account. The system is not perfect. We also non-refundable OBC and will need to monitor our account to be sure it is applied correctly once on board.

MARAPRINCE

There are several excursions I would like to book but will run into this problem. How do I reserve and pay later? Can I do that online or do I need to call?

I am a CAS passenger as well. NEVER have I had ANY problem with any credits from the casino or my OBC. Everything has been applied 100% correctly every one of my cruises.

That's good to hear.

Do you qualify to get the 3% fees written off? Do you get Tier status OBC in addition to other OBC from NCL?

The last night does the casino host attempt to write-off all of your other charges?

This is where some of us have run into computer accounting glitches.

I'm not complaining, but I do understand what some of the other posters have gone through as we have only had this work smoothly on one of our four CAS cruises this last year.
