John Reid Posted July 21, 2017 #76 Share Posted July 21, 2017 If check-in took awhile, a bathroom is definitely first!
sjcruiser Posted July 21, 2017 #77 Share Posted July 21, 2017 If we have FTTF, we drop the bags in the room first. Then we make our way up to the Lido the long way by wandering around the ship to check out the venues on the Promenade or Ocean Plaza, including the casino, nightclub, comedy club, shops, etc.
chumley28540 Posted July 22, 2017 #78 Share Posted July 22, 2017 I head for the buffet and afterward explore the ship. Ditto! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
SNJCruisers Posted July 22, 2017 #79 Share Posted July 22, 2017 Go to Mongolian Wok if your ship has one since the lines on embarkation day are the shortest, assuming you go right away. Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app
Turqoisblu Posted July 22, 2017 #80 Share Posted July 22, 2017 This is only my second cruise but we plan to go straight to Guy's Burgers like we did last time. Yum Sent from my iPhone using Forums
FlaMommy75 Posted July 22, 2017 #81 Share Posted July 22, 2017 Straight to the lido to get lunch for the kids (ages 11&13) then we give them the map of the ship and send them on a "scavenger hunt" to find areas we want to make sure they know how to find. Our room is priority! After that camp carnival, the teen clubs, 24 hour ice cream, the piano bar, gift shop, stage with all the shows, guest services, and the doctor! We usually get on the ship as soon as they open boarding so it's not crowded. By the time they have found everything they usually come back and say our room is open and have their swimsuits on....and we have made friends with the lido bartenders and pool side waitstaff. Sent from my iPad using Forums Our kids are 11 & 13 also and I LOVE the Scavenger hunt idea!! Thanks! We usually have FTTF so go straight to room to drop off stuff, then to Lido deck to eat, explore ship together, then back to room to change into swim suits and hit Waterworks or pool area. Domino D Posted July 22, 2017 #82 Share Posted July 22, 2017 For us, we like to get on as early as we can. It feels like vacation begins once we are though security and check in, even if we sit in the waiting area. Once on the ship, it is straight to the back of deck 10, above the buffet. We claim a spot, and take turns manning the camp and getting coffee and food. I check email for the last time, and remind family and and the office when and how I'll check in. Then listen to music in my headset and catch a nap. We use to explore the ship, but they are all basically the same.
SNJCruisers Posted July 23, 2017 #83 Share Posted July 23, 2017 We use to explore the ship, but they are all basically the same.:confused::confused: Little confused here. Your signature indicates you have sailed on nine different ships with three different cruise lines and none of them are identical in size and layout. You've been on the Fantasy @ 70 k tons through the Freedom of the Seas @ 160 K tons and none of them are the identical class of ship. Granted, all ships have pools, restaurants, bars and deck chairs, but they are certainly not "all basically the same."

Granted, all ships have pools, restaurants, bars and deck chairs, but they are certainly not "all basically the same." The layouts are surprising similar. We are going on Oasis and its Fitness Center is not on a top deck, that will be different. We use to walk the ship to make sure we knew where things are and find our way around. We no longer have an issue finding the front and back of the ship. Stairs and Elevators are roughly in the same spot. Buffet on 9 or 10, MDR on 3 and 4, Casino 4 or 5, Main showroom 3, 4, and/or 5, fitness center on 10/11/12, etc. We now feel comfortable finding things using the daily and the ship maps. We do walk around and take pictures during the cruise, we just don't do it on the first day.
Pom Lover Posted July 23, 2017 #85 Share Posted July 23, 2017 We drop off our carry on in the cabin and then we head to the lido deck for a drink and the hot tub. We love sitting in the hot tub watching everyone board and watch the expressions of the 1st time cruisers.
Cuizer2 Posted July 23, 2017 #86 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Do all you regular cruisers have any particular habits on embarkation? I mean things like heading first for the pool or buffet (or wherever is open at the start). Any tips for a first timer? Sent from my iPad using Forums The first thing I do is head to the cabin, drop off my carry on bags, grab my camera and start taking pictures. Towel Critter Posted July 23, 2017 #88 Share Posted July 23, 2017 Drop bags by room. Walk out onto our balcony for a minute. Head to Lido for lunch. Head back to room to unpack. Rest a bit until time for the muster drill, then back to Lido for the sail away. After that, free styling it for the duration of the cruise. Dave0311 Posted July 23, 2017 #89 Share Posted July 23, 2017 My embarkation tradition is to head straight to Guy's Burgers for lunch! :) However, if you don't make it on the ship earlier, the lunch areas can get crowded, so you might be better off exploring the ship for a bit then heading up to Lido for a later lunch. Senoj84 Posted July 23, 2017 #92 Share Posted July 23, 2017 I head to the buffet for lunch, followed up with my ice cream cone and the fun ship special. After that, I get the Fun Times for the day to see what's going on, then I check to see if my room is available. If my room is not ready, I get familiar with the ship. Bosrox Posted July 23, 2017 #94 Share Posted July 23, 2017 First time cruiser, but I'm sure it will be like every other land vacation we take. We send the kid to find out all the info about the resort, restaurants, shows etc (in this case, the ship) while me and the husband *break in* the room.:hearteyes: It's our travelling tradition and it puts us both in a great mood. Vrybusy Posted July 23, 2017 #95 Share Posted July 23, 2017 To the room and drop off any bags. Then to the Lido, and buy a round of drinks for those in our group! Maybe grab something to eat, explore and check out our dinning room table location....relax and people watch!

sjcruiser Posted July 24, 2017 #100 Share Posted July 24, 2017 Roam/wander around the ship, before heading up to the Lido for lunch. Or, drop off the bags to the room to check it our before roaming around, and heading up to the Lido.
