First time on royal Caribbean

I am not expressing an opinion about whether you should have posted your question or not, or whether you should have done a search or not.

Read your own words.

"I don't have all day to sit around and scroll through hundreds of posts".

There *is* a search function which would narrow down those "hundreds of posts" into those most likely to answer your question.

But more importantly, you are saying that YOUR time is more valuable than anyone else's time. It's your issue. You don't have time to search. (so you wrote). But you expect everyone else to use their time, AGAIN, to answer your question, when they have probably answered it multiple times before.

Just sayin'.

Never understood this mentality on any board. This is a discussion board. The op asked a question. If you don't want to answer it or look at it, ignore it. While there are plenty of comparison threads it there, I have not seen two get the exact same replies. I enjoy seeing more conversation, hence why I come to a discussion board.

I cannot add to the conversation, because I have not gone on carnival in 20 years, but still interested.

It's people like you with your opinions why I left cruise critic for a few years.....I had a question, I asked it in my own words...I don't have all day to sit around and scroll through hundreds of posts looking for someone who asked a similar question. I imagine every possible question about cruising has been asked before....

Amen! It's not always easy to find a current thread on my topic of interest. People get dogged out for asking questions...the only reason some of us are here is to learn, no to brag and bully others. I'm not impressed with CC so far. The members are too harsh.

Don't let a few bad apples ruin it, there are many good people here with good info, but just like any anon board online, there are always trolls.

OP, we enjoy both Carnival and Royal. Never had a cruise on either where everyone goes to bed early. On our Holland and Celebrity cruises, those ships were very sleepy, which explains our continued preference for Carnival and Royal.

I think it really depends on the ship and the luck of the draws as for the types of cruisers!)?

Could not agree more. We once did a 5 day/ 4 day back to back. Same ship same ports, same weather, but the vibe on the 5 day was much livelier and we thought going in it might be the opposite.

We also did the same ship to the same ports a year apart during two successive Thanksgiving weeks and

Grand Cayman got rained out both time. Both times the team on the Navigator handled it extremely well (maybe even better the second time) on the first cruise everybody made the most of it, on the second seemed like everyone was complaining about the missed port.

So it's luck of the draw, with the people you cruise with and also to a large degree the weather. I'd say for sure those two factors have will have a much greater impact on your cruise experience than which line you choose.

Having said that, there are some "anecdotal averages" that seem to ring true. Carnival Service people are more "fun", RCCL ships are nicer, Carnival food a bit better, RCCL shows way better, neither line as good as they were 5 years ago in most respects but both seem to do better with embark and debark at home and ports of call.

So I'd go in to my RCCL cruise expecting their strengths to be better and the weaknesses to be worse, but I would not let one cruise lock me in to one line or the other.

Cruise discussion topics are like porn. Everything that can be done has been done, filmed, and is readily available. But they still make more.

If not for natural disasters and the cruise lines changing how and what they do, there really would be nothing new for us to talk about - and that includes the topic of people complaining about topics that have already been talked about.

I've been on a variety of RCI ships, and am never bored at night... Plenty of shows and bars. And, I've never struggled to find some sort of food after 10pm. The only time I get a little bored is when I wake up too early, like 5am, and there isn't much to do ;)

Me waking up at 5 am is generally never an issue....except for those times when 5 am comes and I never went to bed... some crazy Canadians and Australians will do that to you... lol..

Excellent response... thank you... I chose the 4 day royal Caribbean out of Seattle solely based on one thing... my dads health... he has stage 4 bone cancer and it's in his bucket list to cruise with me one more time....the best of bc itinerary is the only one of its kind that I've found that leaves from and returns to Seattle.... I can't do the 7 day alaska because of work and I really don't want my dad to have to travel far to get on a ship... I'm hoping for the best as far as how "fun" the cruise, the crew and fellow guests are... as far as the food and shows go, my dad and I are as simple and easy to please as people come... we could be served scrambled eggs and spam everyday and be the happiest cruisers ever... after 15 cruises... I have yet to see one single show, so I honestly wouldn't know a good one from a bad one...

Nice. With that theory, there would never ever be any new posts on Cruise Critic.

Right and then when you find an old post and ask a question or make a comment on it they call you out because the post is .... years old. I’m trying to like cc but there’s so many rude people it’s difficult to actually get the information I want without reading through a bunch of needless drama.

We have sailed with Carnival and Royal before. After our last Cruise which was on Carnival we have decided to stick with royal because of the food the entertainment and the people on board. I find the crowd more classy and on Royal ships. Also we like the larger Royal ships for the activities for our kids. I don't want to say Carnival was not good, just Royal is better for us over all :)

Happy cruising......

My sister and I first cruised with a group of friends on Carnival. Then last year we went on a 'sisters' cruise on Royal. We chose Royal because of the ports. Next year we are going on another cruise with Royal to the same ports (love two of the ports). We liked both cruise lines but loved the solarium on Royal. Just wonderful for a relaxing time at the pool. Both lines have pros and cons. I did a lot of research before going on cruise critic so felt very comfortable when we boarded.

The shows aren't good, stateroom was bigger but relaxing.I ordered a bottle for my room on Carnival and it was a fifth, ordered one for upcoming cruise on Royal it's a pint but looks like a fifth love Guys burgers over Johnny Rockets but I love both lines on Royal I'm emerald status on Carnival my status is gold a cruise away from Diamond and a cruise away from platinum

Actually.. the search feature narrows it down to... you guessed it... hundreds of posts. The OP never stated their time was more valuable than others, or that she/he expected anything. Apparently every question that has been asked is already answered, (at least ones that you choose to waste your time on) so why not just delete your account as you are the one that is basically saying that you can no longer be helpful to others. OR If you do not want to comment on a post, how about just be an adult, and move on without commenting on it.

I've been on carnival 13 times and twice on ncl.... I thought I'd give rccl a shot...I'm not into fancy cruising or snooty people. I'm wondering how rccl compares to carnival in regards to onboard fun....I pretty much enjoy going from venue to venue looking for good music and fun company to share a beer with... I'm really hoping it's not gonna be an "in bed by 10pm" kind of cruise....

You will get plenty of what you enjoy. There is not much difference in the clientele between the two lines, although some here will use every breath they have saying that there is. Fancy... no, Refined decor.. yes. Snooty people.. yes, but I have seen those on CCL as well... there is always someone that thinks they are better than someone else. Ignore them.

Anyway... you will have fun, the ships on RCI are fantastic, food is pretty good. Enjoy.

I have been on 6 Carnival cruises and 2 Royal. Sailing Royal July 2018. This is what I have observed:

Food - fairly equal

Room size - larger on Carnival

Entertainment - nod to Royal; Carnival is very lacking in its shows. However, comedy shows better on Carnival.

Waitstaff & Room Stewards - nod to Carnival; usually call me by my name from Day 1 and in general, seem happier

Ambience - Royal; love the brass & glass clean look

Fun - Carnival. More planned activities, trivia, etc. & much more live music. Also every night either a deck or atrium party

So pretty much it is a draw. I sail Carnival mainly due to the price and the itineraries. There is nothing like their private island Half Moon Cay, and now have started stopping at Princess Cay.

You will enjoy your cruise, I am sure. Don't compare and be in the moment!!!
