Thanks for your responses to my questions. Things seem to be done differently from cruise line to cruise line, so we appreciate having a heads up and knowing what to expect.

So, I'm gathering from what I've read, that you have to sign a receipt or chit each and every time you order a drink? Is that the case within the YC as well? (I'm a little OCD, so I end up with a stack of those receipts at the end of the cruise! I've got to learn to just let go and toss those darn things!)

Proseccoandsun ..... looove your CC name. It makes me smile every time I see a post from you!:champagne-toast:

Drinks or gelato outside YC - they give you a small white receipt after you give them your card and it has the drink price listed then subtracted with zero due.

No line for extra tip. They do have lines to print and sign name.

Inside YC - no card needed.

I can't answer whether or not people tipped at the end of their trip or not. However, concerning a "tip as you go" policy, I made this observation. There is NOT a space on receipts from the bar for you to add an additional tip. I took a huge stack of $1 bills and gave one each time I ordered a drink, gelato, coffee, etc. They were very much appreciated. I can honestly say that I never saw anybody else give a cash tip during the voyage. Of course, we also gave generously at the conclusion of our trip

wife brought $100 singles. I brought $50 of two dollar bills. we tipped everybody onboard. I didn't see anyone else doing likewise.

I can't not tip folks who are serving me on 6+ day work weeks. I'm sure they are long workdays to boot.

all employees were delightful. a+

I have read that $2 bills are harder for foreign crew to exchange, and they get a lower exchange rate.

Within the YC we tipped additional at the end of the week. Had $1s for by-the-drink tipping if we felt like we received good service when out and about. We also did not notice others tipping by the drink - it did not seem to be expected. At port, at least in US, porters are not employed by the cruise line. And yes, they expect tips.

Some of these guys were really rude, and for us, non US citizens but Europeans, asking in a rude way for tips often results in the opposite

We had a lovely old man (Louis) who escorted us on board that we tipped seperately (we were the only ones by the way). He was such a sweet man and we hoped he would be our butler during the trip. Unfortunately he stayed at the cruiseterminal in Miami.....

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this great review, Sanbixby.

MSC (and Yacht Club) will be a new experience for us later this year, so every little tidbit we can lap up gets us even more excited. I've been reading Divina reviews to my husband when he gets home after work!

One question: what was the norm, both in the YC and around the ship, concerning getting drinks at the bars and in restaurants? Did people tend to cash tip as they ordered? Were there receipts or chits to sign with each order? In the YC, did people tend to tip extra to those working in that area? And, if they do, was it as the cruise went along, or at the end?

Thanks again for the review, to you and all others who have helped those of us who are waiting with bated breath for our first, or next, cruise with MSC!

As stated by others, you show your room card and the bill indicates a $0 amount. I did not even have to sign most of the slips. We did not tip for these drinks as we very occassionally got drinks out and about and generally did not have any cash on us. I will have to think about this next time.

Within the YC, you don't even sign. If you are in there, you belong there and they don't even ask. It's like magic :-)

As far as tipping, we do the standard cruise line tips and then we also tipped our server and assistant in Le Muse, our Butler and assistant in YC, the Maitre D in Le Muse (honestly, this is the 1st cruise we have interacted with the Maitre D' - he was very engaging). We also tipped the porters at the terminal. Without stating amounts, the heirarchy of largest tip to smallest would be Server and Butler same amount, assistants lesser amount, Maitre D' lesser, porters least. We tipped at the end of the cruise (last night) with the funds tucked into a Thank You card I had brought along.

Havin said and read all that, there are not many sockets or outlets in the room and we were very happy that we brought our power strip so that all devices could be charged. And yes I also used the hairdryer in the room.

We did not take a powerstrip but did have this. I highly recommend it
