Arriving to Ports

New here, bear with me.

Booked a 7 day cruise for July (Western Caribbean). Thinking of shore excursions and such and I was wondering.

1. Do ships ever get delayed arriving to destinations (except for weather)? If the itenerary says it arrives at 8 a.m. do most ships arrive on time?

2. How long does it take to disembark for a shore excursion (tendered/not tendered). I've only booked one so far, but let's say our arrival time in Grand Cayman is 10 am, would we make a 10:45 shore excursion?

Most of the time they arrive as scheduled. As you said depending on weather. Also there may be a delay for a passengers with health problems. Not often ,but it does happen.

Grand Cayman at 10 am, to 10:45 is doable ,but it depends on the ship and the time of your tender ticket.

Platinum level and above gets priority disembarkation for stops and at end of cruise. If you are on a Carnival excusrsion you obviously will be fine. If you have a private excursion scheduled....I would go to guest services at beginning of cruise and explain your situation and needs and they should be able to assist/accomodate you

Yes , Diamond and Platinum get right off the ship :p with no need for a tinder time / ticket. Find one and become friends with them. Become family with them :') and get escorted to the tender :D

Contemplating FTTF, but we did book the excursion through Carnival.

Be aware though that some times Grand Cayman is missed completely because the water is too rough to anchor and run the tender boats. As long as you have a Carnival excursion, you will get your money refunded if you don't make the port. If you are thinking of booking an excursion outside of Carnival, make sure they will refund your money if the ship misses that port. Most will take a credit card to hold the excursion but won't charge it until you actually show up.

If you booked a Carnival excursion, you are fine. They don't start until you get there. You will receive tickets in your room with the meeting place and time. For tendered ports (Grand Cayman), you will all be escorted to the tender together. Other ports, you meet on shore.

Be aware that Carnival ships in the Caribbean normally operate on the same time zone time as the one they left. (so you don't change your watch during the cruise).

Cell phones, if on, will pick up local "Island Time".

Many tour companies operate on "Island Time"

Example after our DST change:

11:10 = Ship time in Pt Canaveral, Cozumel, Costa Maya

10:07 = Belize, Roatan
