Swapping passenger between 2 cabins

So this morning a last minute cruise offer came by email for $399/pp for unobstructed balcony on the royal for 10 days on march 20th.

We thought that my wife's parents would like to go as well; but to get the price both cabins need to be in our names. So it would be me and father in law in one and wife and her mother in cabin 2.

I do not want to spend 10 days sleeping with her dad.

The travel agent says it's easy once on board to get keys and names swapped so everyone gets the same room as their spouse.

Has anyone else done this?

If so, after cabins are paid for can they fix this before departure?

thsbks in advance for any comments/help

It is easy to do once onboard. We have taken our DS and his family along on several cruises now. We book the two rooms under our names - DW one and I get the other one. That way if the DS, DIL or DGD cannot make it, we can substitute some other family member. We simply go to the PSD and ask that the cards be reprogrammed. Your TA is correct.

Don't believe it is possible to be done until after boarding. (Though since you booked with a TA they would have to initiate the inquiry should they know how to do it before).

But it is easily and often done. Just check in at the pier as if everything is fine. Then go to the purser's desk and request the switch. If you want to take an even quicker path of least resistance you can just ask for duplicate cruise cards that will only work the doors, so one person in each cabin will have a separate card for the doors and for going ashore in port and onboard charges. Simple enough.

Totally easy--people do it all the time when they want a second cabin for the kids. One adult must be booked in each cabin, but no one cares who actually sleeps where. They will also issue a "mom key" (a key that only opens the door, no good for charging, disembarkation, etc) so the parent can enter the kid's cabin.

Sounds like a good deal. Absolutely no problem switching cruise cards and credit cards once onboard. Just go to the Passenger Services Desk to change everything around.

A suggestion is to print out enough luggage tags for each person booked in the eventual cabin for the others to use so their luggage goes to the right cabin and you’re not schlepping bags between cabins. The delivery people don’t care about the names on the tags, just the cabin #’s.

I think $399 per person is way, way too much money. I've never paid more than $149 per person for same offer.

You have paid no more than $15/pp/pd for a 10 day Caribbean cruise on a Royal-class ship during the peak of spring vacation? Whose naked pictures do you have, Stein Kruse or Jan Swartz? (Or maybe even Arnold Donald...)

I think it was that price for an interior cabin, but I have no complaints in paying $399. Tips are paid for with the future cruise deposit, stock obc and obc from travel agent and on top of it all a 10% credit back from discover card. After all taxes and said and done the price works out to $39/day each.

We can't hardly find a hotel room locally for that amount and this includes food and entertainment:)

I think it's a little more than $15/pp/pd.

I called the TA about 10 minutes after I got the email and she was freaking out about that price too:)

We did this same cruise as part of a b2b in November, and this was the better half:) and I didn't get enough of st Lucia and Antigua the first time around.

I was only being absurd to point out how equally absurd it is to state you did not get the best deal. Considering that I was on the five day cruise in November that initially dropped to $49 inside/$74 obstructed balcony/$99 balcony--but let my first hold on an obstructed balcony lapse, then a few days later additional BY and BZ cabins opened up. At $49. So the cruise fare ended up only $10/pp more for five nights in a balcony than the $39 I paid to bring my friend as a BVE guest.

I agree. I saw those prices on the 11/25 5 day on royal, was considering turning b2b into a b2b2b, we could have even stayed in the cabin. I then saw a great deal about a month ago. This time called right away.

I have a feeling that we will be only doing these last minute cruises more often. It's nice to pick your room a year in advance, but the last minute prices are great!

It's actually going to cost us more for airline tickets than the cruise itself.

So...did this offer come from Princess or a TA ? Would you send the info to me...at dnan67athotmail.com...never seen an offer like that and considering I live with one day driving distance of most south Florida ports that would be a great chance to sail at last minute...thanks...

Are you signed up for the last minute deal e-mails? Even if not you still may be eligible for the pricing. Just do a mock booking for March 20 Royal Princess on the Princess web site--be sure you are logged in with your Captain's Circle number--and after selecting the cabin category "drill down" all the way to the payment screen to see if you get a sale price lower than that on the initial selection page for that cruise.

It was an email from princess. I did sign up for last minute deals. Since we had future cruise credits, I end up getting at least one email per day.

I read the email within a couple minutes of its arrival and called my TA.

When I clicked on the link in the email the price for balcony was 1199. I gave the TA the code on the email and she entered it with my captians circle and she was blown away at the price.

Lol that's what my parents say too. They also live near two ports. They're now Elite cuz they kept taking those offers.

No where does the OP state he wasn't getting the best deal. ALL questions are about who sleeps where in the 2 cabins and how to sort out the key cards. ???? I still don't get your post.

You need to hope for an active hurricaine season in the caribbean, to keep these deals going.

Also, it appeases people if you say it was a casino price. Lots of posters here can't stand

it when someone else gets a super low price ... just because.

That's what I figured ... or past cruise guest with some other type of benefits.
