Bruce-n-Patty Posted February 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2018 We'll be on Star Princess out of L.A. on 3/4/18 to Hawaii with stops at: Hilo, Honolulu, Lihue Kauai, Lahaina Maui, (in that order). Does anyone know if the ship circles Kauai so that the majestic Napali coast can be viewed on that island's northwest side (either prior to entering the Lihue port or after leaving the port)? Clarea Posted February 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2018 You may also want to ask this on the dedicated Princess forum, where there's a better chance to reach more folks with direct experience: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=

chengkp75 Posted February 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2018 Several threads on the Princess forum about this, and the reading I get is No. As far as I know, only NCL's Pride of America does this. You can do catamaran excursions or helicopter excursions to see it though.
paul929207 Posted February 22, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2018 I pretty sure we did NOT do it on the South Pacific cruise the last three years
Nebr.cruiser Posted February 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2018 We didn't when we were on Princess in Kaui--several years ago. Now that would be some neat scenic cruising!
Kartgv Posted February 22, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2018 The Star did not in Sept. 2017, and neither did the Crown RT LA/South Pacific in 2014. Not only did they not do the Napali Coast, but also the Star didn't take the southern route (to view the volcano) from Hilo, even though their route map clearly showed that it would. Still great trips, however, just plan accordingly.

DRS/NC Posted February 22, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 22, 2018 In Feb. 2015, I was on the Star Princess & we sailed past the NaPali coast -- but it was only because we were unable to get into port in Kauai. Because of high cross winds (45+ mph) & high seas, we couldn't get into the harbor. Capt. Nash then took us around the island & past the NaPali coast. Unfortunately, the weather was so gray, foggy & blustery, NaPali was barely visible! That entire trip had unusually bad weather -- lots of gray & rain the entire 15 days! :(
