hillsprint Posted April 20, 2018 #52 Share Posted April 20, 2018 From memory there is a lift that goes from the entrance to the Tunnel, just up from the quayside, up to the Casino Square level, to save you walking up the St Devote hill. However, that was a few years ago, so things may have changed Thank you for all your posts, it has been most enjoyable and informative, can’t wait for our first Riviera voyage in August

roger b Posted April 21, 2018 #58 Share Posted April 21, 2018 Monte CarloWow, you will not believe the view from our port side cabin while docked across from the famed casino. Just sitting on our cabin balcony watching all of the harbor activity was fascinating. Called Sydney and asked if there were any binoculars available to enhance my viewing and for the first time this cruise I did not get his usual “no Problem”. Alas, he called back later and confirmed getting binoculars was not possible. For some reason there were a steady stream of scuba divers in the bay area in front of the Fairfax hotel formerly known as the Loews when we stayed there almost 40 years ago. Even though it was cool in the shade of our balcony the sun on shore was deceptively hot. We planned a trip to the casino as there was a water taxi that would take us to the other side of the harbor from our dock but that entailed a hike up a few hills in the sun and a taxi option was non-existent due to a supposed taxi strike. So will have to save visiting the casino for another time. Dined in the Terrace once again trying to eat light after trying a Ruben sandwich earlier at Waves. Ended up with chicken Kiev, peas and crab legs. Totally skipped desert as the culmination of almost 23 days with the finest cuisine at sea is taking its toll. lol Marseille Arrived early in the morning and were followed in by the 2700+ passenger Costa Magica and then by the behemoth 4200+ passenger MSC Davina. Never got off the ship so this will be short and sweet. We began packing for our trip home tomorrow as packed bags need to be in hallway before 10pm and we prefer not packing before or after dinner. Plan on wearing the clothes that we will disembark in to dinner and pack the rest in our checked bag. Toiletries will go in carry on bag along with other personal items like valuables and medicines as advised by Oceania. Since we are using private transportation and trying to make an 11:05am departure from BCN to AMS we are scheduled to be getting off and claiming our checked bags about 8:20am. We chose to leave BCN on an earlier flight with a longer connection in AMS rather than the other way around so that we could not only enjoy the KLM Business Class lounge but to ensure making our connecting flight to ATL. Intend to have an “odds and ends” post when we get back home with my overall impression of cruising with Oceania. Goodbye for now and hope you enjoyed the details of our wonderful cruise. Great Cruising with you both , Have a safe trip home, Until the next time ?? lol Pauline and Roger

Would like to get a flavour of what a day on Oceania is like.

CruiseAficionado Posted April 30, 2018 Author #64 Share Posted April 30, 2018 Thank you for a wonderful review of our favorite ship! Safe travels home. Greatly appreciate the thank you. I might add that disembarkation in BCN was a breeze. Since we made our own arrangements for getting to the airport and were in a PH we received a brown luggage tag which enabled us to depart the ship at 8:20am. However, after they announced the ship was cleared at 8am we were off, claimed our bags and in a cab headed for the airport at 8:14am. Great ending to a great cruise! CruiseAficionado Posted May 4, 2018 Author #73 Share Posted May 4, 2018 The absolute best City Tour EVER!Have you ever been on a tour that gave you not only the sights and sounds of a city but also the local tastes? Well that is what you are in store for when you choose Sea Saffron as your tour guide in Valencia Spain. Having toured the world extensively this is one of the best city tour I have ever been on. We were met at the bottom of the escalator in the cruise terminal building by Eduardo, joined another couple and walked to two private cars (not a taxi) for our ride to city center. Upon arriving we then started our walking tour of Valencia that included: Valencia Cathedral which holds a Holy Chalice purported to be by Christian historians as the Holy Grail, Mercado Central one of the oldest in Europe in continuous operation and Church of Saint Nickolas with almost 2000 square meters of fresco paintings. Along the way we had a taste of the local ham which is similar to prosciutto and visited a cafe serving a traditional drink made out of “tiger nuts” and a most amazing pastry to dip into it. Next we were once again taken by private car to the City of Arts and Sciences which is so spectacular in person that pictures do not do it justice. After walking around the “City” we walked to a high rise and were taken up to a private room with a magnificent view of the city for an exquisite seven course Tapas treat including a wine tasting from three bottles of wonderful local wines - two reds and a white. I highly recommend this exceptional tour to anyone who wants to truly experience the sights, sounds and tastes of Valencia! We were treated like royalty. Here is a pic of the Holy Grail.
