Cancellation Policy updated

I inadvertently looked up the cancellation policy to verify the final payment date of my September cruise. To my surprise it has been changed for bookings made after April 15, 2018.

Of course the changes are not to the advantage of the customer.

Old policy

For 5 NIGHT CRUISES OR LONGER IF CANCELLATION IS MADE (including Holiday Sailings and Cruisetours) CANCELLATION CHARGE (Per person)

90+ days No charges

89 to 75 days Deposit Amount

56 to 29 Days 50% of total price

28 to 15 days 75% of total price

14 days or less 100% of total price - No refund

New Policy

FOR 5 NIGHTS OR LONGER CRUISES (including Holiday Sailings and Cruisetours) CANCELLATION CHARGE (Per Person)

90+ days No charges

89 to 75 days 25% of total price

74 to 61 days 50% of total price

60 to 31 days 75% of total price

30 days or less 100% of total price - No refund

Believe it or not, this is actually a good change for us budget travelers. I just booked an 11 night cruise and our down payment was 60% of our total cost!

I don't understand. Please explain.

I’m surprised you get anything back after final payment at 90 days, to be honest. At that point, the cruise line needs to make sure the rooms are filled to derive the maximum income. Just another reason to have insurance, or use a card that includes it.

Does this mean they are doing away with the cancellation fees for sailings that are changed or canceled prior to final payment date?? If so, I am good with this. I like to book cruises as soon as they are released but oftentimes, it is hard to say what is going to happen 2 years from now. I always purchase the cancellation insurance so the new policy is to my benefit if they have, in fact, gotten rid of that pesky cancellation / change fee.

I just put down the required $900 on a cruise with a total cost of $1600.

Under the old policy, if I had to cancel between 89-75 days, I'd be out $900

Under the new policy, I'd only be out $400

Not that I would EVER cancel a cruise...:D:D;p;p;);p
