Thanks I’ve seen that (well as much of it as I could. It is in German. Lol) and I’ve read a lot of vista reviews besides the things mentioned which I would like to hear about. I’m also curious as if everything was running smoothly and how the director and staff were and if anyone experienced anything odd on there time aboard. Thanks

I just got off the Horizon on Sunday. I used to write thorough reviews of every cruise, but Photobucket has my account held hostage right now due to the bandwidth my reviews were generating. And I’m too cheap to pay the 500 or so bucks they want to charge me to make my photos viewable again, so I gave up. But I can sum up my experience and answer any questions that you have.

Firstly, I loved the ship. It’s my favorite one so far. It never felt crowded anywhere, except for the Main Theater. We went to one show any actually had to sit in the upper seats (never had to do that before). I see what people mean about the Liquid Lounge being horrible on the Vista. It really is. First of all, it is so much smaller than the theaters on other ships. The moveable chairs on the bottom floor are not practical, and there are so many seats in the theater that have no view at all due to the huge floor to ceiling posts. Such a horrible design. Because of this, we never bothered to go to any other shows except for that one. Which is a shame, because I love Carnival’s shows.

The food on the ship was excellent, as was the service. We had YTD, and never had to wait for a table for four. We ate lunch one day at Bonsai Teppanyaki and it was the best teppanyaki that I have ever had. For dinner, we did Jiji’s Asian Kitchen one night, as well as the Steakhouse on the last night. Jiji’s was phenomenal. I wish they had this restaurant in my hometown. I would eat there a lot. The Steakhouse was good, except for what I would consider another design flaw: it is right next to the Piano Bar, and there was no separation between the two venues. They seated us at a table that was right next to the Piano Bar. It was so loud that we could not hear ourselves talk during dinner. I appreciate that some people love the Piano Bar, and I have no complaints about the music he was playing, but I paid to have dinner in the Steakhouse, not in a bar. I didn’t appreciate this at all, and will be providing my feedback to Carnival.

We were in a Havana Cabana that we were upsold to for a small amount (originally booked in an interior). Given that we only had one sea day and were sailing with friends not in a Havana room, we didn’t get to use the Havana pool area at all. But, it was nice to experience the room. I can say that I probably would not book a Cabana room on the Horizon for future cruises. The appeal of these rooms is that you can easily walk to your patio from the pool area. However, you cannot lock the patio door from the patio. So if you want to go to the pool and leave you room locked, you have to leave the room from the regular door, walk down the hallway, then through the Havana Bar. This doesn’t seem at all convenient. My understanding is that the Vista Cabanas are different, and that you can lock the patio doors behind you. I’m not sure why they changed this for the Horizon.

I thought I would miss having an atrium that goes all the way up, but I really didn’t. The funnel with changing patterns (whatever you call it), is really fun. Though truth be told, I still prefer the larger atriums with the glass elevators, if I had to choose. But, it’s not a dealbreaker. I also prefer the old Farcus decorated ships much more than the modern look that the new ships have. I like the Vegas glitz and glam feel of the old ships.

We choose morning and evening service. Our room steward (or stewardess?) Laura was exceptional. She filled up the ice in our room both in the morning and in then evening. Without being asked. She was great.

I did a cabin crawl and it seems that all of the room types seem to have shrunk a bit. But from what I have heard, they are still bigger than the rooms on other cruise lines. What Carnival has done with adding the Family Harbor and Havana cabins is great, though. Smart move on their part.

The gift shop on this ship was incredibly tiny. You really can’t fit more than a couple people in it at a time. They did have another Horizon Inaugural store that was a bit bigger, though. I’m not sure if this will become the regular gift shop once the inaugural season is over, however. Hopefully it will. I was disappointed that they no longer sell the ceramic ship magnets that I collect. They have switched over to plastic ones.

There is a Victoria’s Secret now on this ship. But like the other stores onboard, not something I would spend my money on. I don’t sail to go shopping for things I can buy at home. The Cherry on Top has a ice cream shop, which I think is also new for this ship.

I’m typing this out on my phone, so I realize this isn’t the best written review. I’m still pretty jet lagged, too, from the long flight home yesterday. I’m sure that I am forgetting something, but for now, that’s all I can think of. It was a fantastic cruise. Loved every bit of it and I hope I get to sail on this ship again.

Thanks a bunch. I hope I don’t get sat next to the piano in the steakhouse. This review is quite helpful I’m glad you enjoyed your voyage.

Thanks for the feedback, sounds like you had a good time. I have 2 questions. You said you had lunch at the teppanyaki restaurant; did they offer lunch several times, or just on sea days? With regard to the piano bar music, were you at the steakhouse when they were playing the background/lounge/instrumental type music, or were you there when they started the singalong entertainment?

Thanks for the review! I'm curious, was there a pool in the Serenity Deck area? How was the Serenity area?

We were on the Vista in January and the layout looks just like the Horizon. No pool, 2 hot tubs, bar, salad bar, deck 15 forward (can be windy when sailing).

I’m not sure how the Teppanyaki at lunch works on normal cruises. I just know that it was open on our one and only sea day. And as far as the Piano Bar was concerned, our dinner reservation was for 6 pm. Right when we sat down for dinner the guy who plays the piano started playing. And it was very loud. Thankfully there really wasn’t anyone in the bar at the time. A few people came in during the time we were there for dinner. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like if people were also singing along to the music.

Honestly, I never even got to see the Serenity deck. With only one sea day, we didn’t have enough time to explore the ship. So I definitely didn’t see it all. But my guess would be there is not a pool there.
