Carnival Hawaii cruise ?’s

I recently returned from a one way hawaii cruise on a different cruise line. To do the one you are considering you have to LOVE sea days. You’ll have many many many more sea days than Hawaii days. We went late April/early May and on the return trip, it got cold on day 2 of 5 sea days which made them even less fun. So, if you do it, go on the summer so it’s warm enough on the sea days.

We did one a few years ago on the Spirit (R/T from San Diego) and loved every minute. I do enjoy sea days so there's that. Our cruise left San Diego in April so it can be a bit cold for the first few days and, of course, on the return trip. As it's a long trip the passengers tend to be older (another good thing). If I had to guess we had less than 10 kids onboard and the ones I saw seemed to be well-behaved.

The seas can be unpredictable that time of year. My wife tends to get seasick on the rougher days but for these kinds of trips we get an oceanview cabin on the lowest deck of the ship towards the middle so a lot less movement.

I would do another one without hesitation. I know the Miracle (Spirit Class) and the Splendor have trips scheduled to Hawaii. Carnival's newest ship, the Panorama, will be based out of Long Beach when they get done building her and I'm hoping it will make a few trips there in the future.

We have sailed this itin 3 times on other lines, and we are booked on the Splendor for Oct 2018.

We have never gone in Oct, so this will be different.

I tend to agree with what the others have said, however we don't mind the sea days.

I wear the wrist bands instead of the seasick meds. Those make me too sleepy.

There isn't much we don't like, as you can see, we are on our 4th one. You won't use your balcony much on the crossing--too windy--and the 1st day over and the 1st day back can have more motion in the ocean no matter when you go.

If you don't mind sea days, then you will enjoy this !

We also did the 15-day roundtrip from San Diego on the Spirit back in 2012. We loved every single minute of this cruise! The days flew by so fast! The 4 days at sea each way were fantastic. And visiting the ports of call were loaded with great memories. Would be do it again? HECK YEAH!

My wife and I did the 15 day Hawaii cruise out of Long Beach on the Carnival Miracle. Our cruise sailed in January 2015.

As several others have mentioned, if going this time of year, I would be prepared for some chilly days...especially those initially after leaving California and those days just prior to arriving back. Additionally, if going in January, even Hawaii can get slightly cool in the evening. As a matter of fact, while there, we noticed some snow on some of the Hawaiian mountaintops.

Regardless, the cruise overall was a 'warm weather' cruise with only a few cooler moments from time to time. Relative to the sea days, we had 8 days at sea during the 15 day cruise, but we had no problem with boredom or feeling like there was nothing to do.

In short, I would take the cruise again in a heartbeat. For the price, you can't beat the experience.

We just did the 15 day roundtrip from Long Beach in Dec of 2017. Loved every minute of that cruise. Cannot wait to do it again.

As others have said. You must like sea days, but CCL added island themed activities to fill the sea days. Island crafts, dance lessons, naturalist speaker & "academy of fun" which was another speaker. Because it was a "Journeys" cruise, they had a midnight buffet & other things that have been cut from shorter cruises. Because it was a longer cruise, we got to know fellow passengers more than we normally would on a 7-9 day cruise. As others said the crowd was older, less kids, more veteran presence too. The sea days were cold & windy, but we hung out on Lido, the Casino, & other public spaces. The islands were beautiful in Dec, not sure about October.

This was one of the best cruises I have ever experienced. The only negative was that several people got sick with some kind of bronchial virus. That many days in enclosed spaces caused it to spread throughout the ship. Luckily I got sick a day after I returned home. But it was still worth it.

Sept - Oct 2020 is what we are looking at dates wise. We won’t be taking our teenagers so the lack of kids won’t bother us. It will be our 20th anniversary so we are thinking of doing a suite and going all out. When those dates open up we will decide between Hawaii and the 14 day Southern Caribbean cruise

Good luck with your choice. Either cruise sounds good to me. So if you hate sea days, go for the southern Caribbean. If you love relaxing on a sea day, go for the Hawaiian.

Respectfully disagree with this. There’s a big difference between ‘hating’ sea days, and not wanting to spend more than half the cruise on sea days. Many people cruise to see places. A 14 day trip to Hawaii where you spend 28% of your time in Hawaii and the rest going there and back is an inefficient way to see Hawaii. It’s mostly about spending time on the boat with a pit stop in Hawaii to get off the ship for a bit.

I would say, if you are cruising to spend time on the boat, choose the Hawaii cruise. If you are cruising to spend time in port, choose the Caribbean cruise. You can enjoy port days on either cruise.

I love sea days normally, but the Hawaii cruise was SO many sea days all in a row, with 4-5 days of excursions all packed in a row as well. The weather was not nice enough in January to do any outdoor activities and I did get bored at times. When we went (2014) it was before Journeys cruises started and they did not really have any extra activities that they do now on long cruises. I'm not saying it was horrible, of course we had a great time. All of the Hawaiian Islands are different and it is a fantastic way to experience the different areas of Hawaii all at once. But if you are excited about all of those sea days keep in mind that the sea days on a Hawaii cruise are not really the same as sea days in the Caribbean if that is what you are expecting.

We did the 15 dat cruise to Hawaii a couple of years ago. We went in October. I will definitely do it again. We did not get bored on see days. They a lot of activities to do. Sometime we had choose between a couple of the activities. I actually won a “ship on a stick” for playing in a “Rock, Paper, Scissors” tournament. Watch out for the wheeled chairs because some will run over your toes to get arts&crafts. We met some great people. We actually closed the Frankenstein Disco the last night of the cruise.. mind you my husband and I were 52 years old at the time.

I booked an HAwaii cruise 16 days September 2019.

I have been to Hawaii 7 times before, as I used to work at an airlines and could fly free so we went twice a year. This time I already know what I want to do as we have done so much there before except this cruise will also stop at Kuai and I havn't been there. I will turn platinum on this cruise! I am looking forward to the sea days and it is a Journey cruise.
