cruisine21 Posted June 26, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2018 When I was on the Ovation in January this year there was a charge for dinner in the Solarium. Breakfast and lunch were free. There is a discussion on Facebook and some people are saying they were charged and others are saying they weren’t. Not sure why you were charged?

The_Big_M Posted June 27, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2018 Also depends where. On Asian sailings Solarium does an Asian theme and lunch and dinner are charged.

Cruisegroover Posted July 3, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 3, 2018 On my cruise planner for January 2019 there is a charge of $US29 listed for dinner. I looked at the reservation section it is applied every night of the cruise.

On the new quantum class that they are building right now.the spectrum. The solarium is a suite only area
Rare MicCanberra Posted July 3, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 3, 2018 I suppose that is a sign of the times. The cruise lines are always looking to see where they can make more money and then keep those passengers happy.
Chiliburn Posted July 3, 2018 #12 Share Posted July 3, 2018 Less open space for average joe. I think quantum of the seas is a suite area too now ?
The_Big_M Posted July 4, 2018 #13 Share Posted July 4, 2018 Quantum is very similar to Ovation (though not the same). Same suites access between them.
Jandex Posted July 5, 2018 #14 Share Posted July 5, 2018 In January 2017 we had dinner many times in the Solarium - no charge. However I’ve noticed on the cruise planner for April 2019 Transpacific there is a charge to dine there... not too happy about that. It was nice to have some more choice at dinner time. Rare MicCanberra Posted July 8, 2018 #15 Share Posted July 8, 2018 I think it is a shame but these things seem to be occurring more often as cruise lines look at satisfying the higher paying passengers.
The_Big_M Posted July 8, 2018 #16 Share Posted July 8, 2018 Not sure how adding a charge to a previously free restaurant serves to satisfy higher paying passengers. Even if they pay more, I don't see them happier at fewer included dining options. Seems more in line with ways to make more revenue, which has been an ongoing theme. Sorry to confuse you, the context was around the area becoming a suite only area on the Spectrum ots.
