We purchased the pass to spend a few hours onboard a Princess ship, enjoyed lunch in the MDR, a tour and group photo. We were onboard ahead of the other guests, but we embarked with a cruiseline staff member, in a different area from the other priority guests. It was a great way to experience for a few hours what a different ship and for us, a different cruiseline was like. And Princess is no longer offering the BVE experience. A couple of months ago I was in St. Thomas at the same time a friend was there on another RCI ship. It would have been great if we could have had lunch together in the Windjammer. Or you could have had lunch in St Thomas together. 1

You'd think it would be an easy way to make a little extra money. They could limit it to let's say the first 200 people or so depending on the size of the ship and charge like $20 each. For one it's usually not very crowded for the first few hours on the ships, two when the ships hold 4,000 people or more you wouldn't even notice an extra 200 people on board for a couple hours, and three you'd think that it would be a great way to get people interested in your line if they've never sailed with you before. I know my wife and I are always thinking of trying a new line but never do because we don't want to spend all the money on a vacation that might be a disappointment. this is a Post 9/11 world. with all the heightened security and increased background checks that comes along with it. and I for one would NOT be happy if departure was delayed because some day visitor decided he didn't want to get off on time. ckergald Posted December 6, 2019 #29 Share Posted December 6, 2019 I've had visitor pass experiences on Royal twice recently, 1st was in 2016, I was interested in taking my Autistic children on a cruise and Autism on the Seas offered a ship tour, we needed to provide our information a few weeks out and they gave us a guided tour of the ship including lunch at the windjammer. 2nd was I was recently married on Harmony of the Seas (Sept 2019) and we had several non sailing guests attending our wedding, we needed to provide a list of names about 2 months out along with the ID they would be presenting to security, again we were escorted on as a group. There are many quiet places on St Thomas. I know as we have been there a few times. Then, how to decide which ship? Lol

South Florida people I know took advantage of it and enjoyed everything except having to disembark. Since the hope was future bookings, maybe that didn’t happen often enough. Did the people you know that toured the Princess ship book cruises on Princess? If not, my guess is that is why it was discontinued. If they did, it did what the intent was but it may have gotten to be too many visitors to handle.

My friends did book, but they were already talking to a TA. The husband was a little reluctant so the TA mentioned the chance to experience a little of the ship and the result was enthusiasm on his part and relief on his wife's. They’re still cruising on Princess.
88coup Posted December 7, 2019 Author #35 Share Posted December 7, 2019 Like I explained in my original post my father-in-law wants to go on a cruise. Now what I didn't mention is he has copd and needs oxygen so his wife doesn't think that they could manage on the ship but I keep telling them that I see people with oxygen on the shops quite often. She also thinks that he wouldn't be able to enjoy himself onboard and I would love for them to experience a cruise ship for at least one day. The BVE (Bon Voyage Experience) is still being advertised online by just typing Princess Cruise BVE. If possible to book it out of Seattle, San Francisco, NYC, LA or Fort Lauderdale, it really is worth the $39.
