First cruise on Princess and impressed

What a nice review! It was suggested that you try one of the newer Princess ships, either the Royal or Regal. My wife and I love cruising in Princess Mini Suites in their older, smaller ships. We found that the Mini Suites on the new Royal class ships are significantly smaller than those on the other ships. The balconies on the Regal were much smaller as well. We found that the newer Royal class ships have a cabin category called 'Deluxe Balcony.' The Deluxe Balcony has a 2 person couch or 'love seat' ,one TV and a shower stall instead of a bath tub. They both have the same small balconies which are about half as deep as what you had on the Caribbean Princess. If we are sailing on one of the newer Princess ships we will always go for the deluxe balcony instead of the mini suite. We save a lot of money and we get everything we would have in the mini suite. The older ships do not have deluxe balconies so we get the mini suites on them.

Enjoy sailing on princess.

I almost always always get a balcony since I travel solo. A few years ago I was upgraded to a full suite and I found I didn’t want to leave it. Two TVs and two bathrooms and half the back of the ship for my balcony. I asked why and was told it was probably because I always have to pay 200%. I spend so little time in the room it is just a waste and I would become horribly spoiled. Friends told me to travel even though I had already seen most of the world since I still had good heath, time, enough money and interest. Many lack the last ingredient I have found. Mike

I forgot to recommend the Pacific Princess to the first time Princess cruisers who started this thread with their review. It is my favorite by far and their smallest, only around 650 passengers. It is the one they use for their around the world cruise and has lots of character and a real library in the classic tradition. I’ve been on it five or six times and each time I like it better. You actually get to meet and know people from all over the world and if you wish make friends. Mike

We are 88 and 78 and have taken more than 20 cruises. Most on NCL and some on Carnival. We were on the Caribbean Princess Aug 4...7 day cruise to the E Caribbean. Here are some random comments. The bed was the MOST comfortable bed we have ever slept on. That alone would lead me to take another Princess cruise! The Caribbean Princess recently replaced all bedding and whatever they chose, it was perfection.

Did you know you can buy a mattress or whole bed complete to linens from Princess? Here is their web site:

Since you were so impressed with the bed, I thought you would like to know.

We just cruised Alaska on the Coral and had that new bed. It was comfortable!!

I’ve had the uncovered mini-suite balcony and it almost unusable on our Panama Canal cruise. And it made the room hot.

We have booked an uncovered balcony mini suite for the Panama Canal Transit on the Coral next April. Why do you say the balcony was almost unusable? What can we bring or do to make it better? We booked this minisuite as the balcony will give us a private view off both the port side as well as the stern. We will keep it but any advice you can give to make it better is appreciated.

I’m so glad you enjoyed your first Princess cruise. I’ve only cruised on Princess, but I’m happy with them, so I don’t look elsewhere. My next cruise will be my first as Elite, so I feel like my loyalty has paid off.

But I’m sorry you had a less than great Cabin Steward. Ours have alway been terrific. We often stay in Casino until the wee morning hours, so there are several days we don’t leave the room until late afternoon. Or sometimes not at all, or one of us just goes to get “take out” food from the buffet, or cafe or by the pool. Or we order room service.

We tell the steward on embarkation day that we are night owls, and may be in our room at schedules different than other cruisers. We put the “do not disturb” card in the slot, and once or twice we’ve gotten a phone call asking if we needed anything. If he doesn’t call, and we need towels, or kleenex or turndown candy or whatever we ask for it - he’s reachable by phone, too.

As others have said, he’s there to work around your schedule. But good communication helps every situation.

Enjoy your next cruise!
