suzyluvs2cruise Posted September 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2018 We'll be taking our 1st Regent cruise in November and booked in Nov '17. We're booked in a Cat D guarantee. In looking at the available cabins on a site that scans the sea and the Regent website the only category that shows availability is Cat G. Not sure how Regent works with their guarantees and am looking for info from experienced Regent cruisers.
Travelcat2 Posted September 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Kindly let us know which ship you are booked on because the answer may differ depending upon the ship. Thanks!

HotRoot Posted September 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2018 This was our experience. Booked the bottom category gty for a 7 night cruise. Received a call two weeks prior to departure. Ship was full. Offered a full refund and we could book a future cruise at 50%. Booked a gty for the next year. Received a call two weeks prior to departure. Ship was full. Offered a 10 night cruise 30 days later. We took the offer. This was on the Navigator. Our only Regent cruise. I am sure if we had not taken both offers they would have found somebody else to take them and they would have given us a cabin.
Travelcat2 Posted September 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2018 Although we have not stayed in a "G" suite on Navigator, people that have stayed in the window suites seem to like them and the position is pretty good (aft would be much worse as there is quite a vibration in the aft section of the ship). Since you are so close to when the ship sails, the likelihood of cancellations lessen. It is possible that you will get a "G" category. On the other hand, if someone in a higher category cancels, they may offer an upsell to someone that isn't "guaranteed" and they could put you in their suite. Doing a guarantee is a bit of a crap shoot but sometimes it works out well.

We usually choose our cabin and don't gamble but that wasn't available when we booked for Concierge Category. Also...if we booked and paid for a Concierge Cat D guarantee I didn't think they could give us a lower.....and less expensive Cat G cabin.
flossie009 Posted September 15, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2018 If you are booked in a D grade gty you will be allocated a D grade suite or better. You will not be allocated a lower grade. Regent may make you an offer of a refund and/or a ‘sweetener’ for an alternative cruise but you are under no obligation to accept; you are guaranteed a suite; in your case D grade or better. The following is from the FAQs on the Regent website (the policy is the same for all Regent ships): We may (at our discretion) offer you the option of making a ‘Guarantee’ (GTY) booking. This means you may book a suite of a guaranteed minimum category booking type, (specified by us prior to booking) on your chosen ship. However, the exact location of the suite on the ship will be allocated by us (at our discretion) and at any time up until checking in at the port. Once your GTY suite has been allocated to you we are unable to accent changes requested by you. If you have a specific requirement, or suite location we suggest you do not book a GTY. Please note: If you book multiple segments there is a possibility that you may be allocated different suites on each segment of your cruise, therefore necessitation the need to move between suite on the changeover day between your consecutive segments. fizzy Posted September 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2018 I would agree with Flossie. We have occasionally booked a guarantee cabin and often been upgraded but never downgraded to a lesser category.....nor would we have accepted anything less. 1982CruzStart Posted September 16, 2018 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2018 I think TC misread your original post when she talked about Cat G. Regent won't put you in a cabin at a level lower than what you paid for.

Regent won't put you in a cabin at a level lower than what you paid for. You are right - thanks for the correction. Regent has a way of making availability when it appears that none exists. The website could be showing waitlisted (or full) because the TS has a placeholder on a suite in that category.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted September 16, 2018 #13 Share Posted September 16, 2018 Yikes!! that's terrible. Hoping that doesn't happen to us. Just to reiterate what several have said, you're guaranteed a cabin, you just have to say no when they offer you another cruise. It might get so the deal is so good you can't refuse! Thanks.......it would have to be a very sweet offer for us to give up the cruise. ;);) Edited September 16, 2018 by suzyluvs2cruise
