FLL hotel

If you are interested in being close to the port, shopping, restaurants and within walking distance of many things (including Publix and the water taxi) I would also look into a hotel on 17th Street.

Normally if you go through Valuetrips.com you can get the Amerisuites for less money. Plus they have a shuttle to/from the airport and to the pier the morning you board. The price depends on the month you book but it can be very inexpensive at times and usually $99 or LESS.

Cruise Fairy,

I believe you can get a room for this price at the Hyatt Pier 66 or Marriott, Nice places to hang out right on the intercoastal waterway, hyatt marina, water taxi, etc. I recommend those. I've stayed twice at the Pier 66 and both times wished I was staying longer.

On other threads, I've seen posters indicate you can target these two hotels on Priceline by selecting 4 star hotel in that area. You can search those posts.

What might help you too is to go the Hotel pre-post forum there. There is a wealth of information on that board. There are two people that come on the board named TrentS and Bequia and they live in Fort Lauderdale. They may help you out.

Wyndham FLL airport is NOT a very nice hotel, and it's in a very isolated area. There's nothing at all to walk to... It's THAT CHEAP for a REASON! :(

Try these, they're along SE 17th Street, less than 10 minutes from FLL, just outside the entrance to Port Everglades and surrounded by dozens of restaurants, shops, grocery, drug & liquor stores as well as the very popular Water Taxi all within safe, easy walking distance.

Embassy Suites... http://www.embassysuites.com/en/es/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=FLLSOES

The price is actually $275 per night on-line, when I called to check prices, it was $325 per night. But my TA got a deal as a special favor. We don't need to walk, my Mom will have her car.....so has a winter place in Fl. Is it not nice because of the location or is the hotel not very nice?

Two years ago we stayed at the Ramada Inn and it was the hotel from %*! Don't want to have another experience like that.

Thanks for all the websites....I'll definitely look into them.

Sounds like a good rate to me. We are sailing in Feb. and cheapest rates in most hotels, motels is near $200 for one night in Feb. I cruise every Feb. and have never seen such high rates as this year. I think it may be a result of the hurricaine damage to Fla. We hae been searching the web and the lowest rate We got was at the La Quinta in Deerfield Beach for $119 plus tax for one night. So We are happy with the rate. We just hope the place is clean.

To be honest with you - we stayed at the Wyndham in April. Did not find it to be anything special. The lobby and pool areas were nice but the rooms just didn't feel or look clean. The front desk staff was very unfriendly and seemed to not be trained very well. We ate in the restaurant because there is no place to walk to. The food took forever to come and was not good - even the coffee was horrible. We had an early fllight out in the morning and we could not get the bell staff to come to the room. After three calls they finally came and the bellman ended up arguing with me! I chose Wyndham because we have stayed in their Boston and Chicago hotels - which were beautiful - but I would never stay in the Ft. Lauderdale location again. Sorry.:(

The location is okay IF you have a car and don't mind being next to a freeway and an airport, but if you don't have a car there's NOTHING to walk to.

The hotel is just NOT IMO a nice place, as someone else posted above, it's not very clean, and just not very nice. It's better than that horrible Ramada, but still not very nice. I would want to stay elsewhere if it were ME. IMO it's well worth paying more for a nicer hotel.

The much higher rates this year have absolutely NOTHING to do with the hurricane! There was really very little real damage to most hotels and they were getting these rates for this winter/spring long before the hurricanes.

The real reason the rates are higher is just simple supply and demand! The extremely popular King Tut exhibit being in Fort Lauderdale this year plus just increased tourism in general have created a huge demand for rooms this year. More people are traveling than at any time since 9/11.

Trents....how is the Best Western in Hallandale Beach? Any info would be appreciated.....thanks

I haven't been in the rooms at that one, but it's quite old and next to I-95... If you do stay there I would definitely want to have a car.

Thank you for directing me to AmeriSuites. Did you stay here and how did you find the rooms? My big concern is cleanliness. Any info on AmeriSuites you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Ike

Thank You also for all the info you gave me . I will be staying in the Ft. Lauderdale Area for 3 days before the cruise and would like to know where exactly the" King Tut Exhibit" is located and hours if you know when it is open for exhibit. Ike

IKE - The King Tut exhibit is at the Museum of Art in downtown Fort Lauderdale. You must purchase your tickets IN ADVANCE... http://www.moafl.com/kingtut/

AmeriSuites is a BUDGET hotel that's a bit worn around the edges. It gets VERY mixed reviews (people seem to either love it or hate it), but if you're on a tight budget it's fine for a night as long as you can get it through Valuetrips or one of the other discounters.

Personally I think Extended Stay America is a MUCH nicer "budget" hotel. Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" is also a much nicer budget hotel. Those are both a block from Port Everglades and right in the middle of EVERYTHING. Their location can't be beaten...

Thanks for the info....but why....definitely would want to have a car? Because of location/distance from Port Everglades?

Yes, that BW is a long way from Port Everglades, it's not in a very good neighborhood (I don't think you're going to want to be walking around there, particularly at night!), and if you don't have a car you're going to spend more on cabs than if you'd just stay along SE 17th Street.

I assume you meant THIS BW?... http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=10297

Quite frankly the reviews on that one are pretty bad... http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34547-d80409-Reviews-Best_Western_Hallandale-Pembroke_Park_Florida.html

Cruise Fairy...How long will you be staying at the hotel? 1 full day, or just to sleep, etc?

Not sure what kind of hotel you are looking for, but if you are looking for a "budget" hotel, you might consider the Sleep Inn in Dania, FL. We stayed there in Oct 04 and it worked well for us. Clean, comfortable, free breakfast, free shuttle to airport AND port, and close to both. There was a Walgreens right across the street but not sure about restaurants. We only really needed it to sleep because our flight didn't come in until 10:30pm the night before the cruise.

I looked up the rate for when we are going this year (Oct 06) and it is $71.99. Here is the link just in case your interested. http://www.choicehotels.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfoGeneral?hotel=FL664&sid=s0Gpi.eVeOigUEc.6&sarea=85281&sname=Fort+Lauderdale&sstate=FL&scountry=US&sradius=40.22&slat=26.1220&slon=-80.1435&schain=Z&scity=Fort+Lauderdale&sort=&nadult=1&nchild=0

Good luck!
