Seago2 Posted January 23, 2006 #152 Share Posted January 23, 2006 Electricron, you should really share that website source when you post these facts. Found it: http://www.cruisejunkie.com/events.html I check that site all the time, I think we all do, so that incident must have been added recently. The child is fine. All I can say is that I hope my friend doesn't see this... I spent three months convincing her that her child would NOT fall overboard, and she leaves on the Wonder in a week... shoreguy Posted January 23, 2006 #153 Share Posted January 23, 2006 I've got a question: how does a baby fall overboard? Wouldn't that have required help? According to the passenger source as posted on cruisejunkie you are correct. "A toddler fell overboard when her mother set her on the railing on the gangway staircase. The mother let go of the child to put her documents back into her purse. "
GOLDENBONNY Posted January 23, 2006 #154 Share Posted January 23, 2006 Love it! Ya gotta remember how things "grow" with the passage of time. Wasn't the rogue wave over 200'? ;) -Monte SORRY BUT 8 PEOPLE FROM MY PARTY SAW 30' WAVES FROM REPORT ,SO THINGS DONT ALWAYS GROW.:)

" And why do I have a feeling that the mother tried to find a way to blame the cruiseline for this.
CHUD Posted January 25, 2006 #156 Share Posted January 25, 2006 We were on the NCL Dawn for the April, 05 storm and "freak wave". The seas were at about 40 ft most of the 24 or so hours of this storm, and they started at about 25 while we were still by Miami, the storm was brewing by N. Carolina. I would like to know if anyone has been on the Eastern Caribbean cruise (I think it's the same one the Spirit just came back from") during the month of March. I would really love:rolleyes: to have an "uneventful" cruise this time around. I have many people telling me that we are crazy to go again and especially on the same ship! We were on the 8th deck last time, waves did come onto our balcony and the ship rocked a lot, mostly stuff rolling around the cabins and sliding doors open and shutting etc. Some glasses fell out of the bar cabinet and like that - it was somewhat scarey- then so is being in a plane and all of a sudden feeling it "drop" or hitting air turbulence. We cruise out of NY because my husband will not fly! If you have been on a cruise to this area in March, please let me know. We are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and my hubby's birthday while out there. I am glad everyone got back OK and hope they enjoyed most of their vacation. Cherh:)

singitalto Posted January 25, 2006 #159 Share Posted January 25, 2006 I was also on the Dawn '05 wave cruise. I think it's hard to say how the seas are going to be. In April '04- The year before the wave cruise, my dh and I sailed the same itineary and the seas were near perfect. We are sailing for the first time since last years eventful cruise, also again in April. Hoping for smooth sailing this time!:D

We were on the 10th deck and booked the same room for this sailing. We were upsaled to the 11th deck. I well remember how rough the water was that day and night. We were in Cagney's when the ceiling tiles fell down around us. To be completely honest, the battering we felt the most happened at 1AM which knocked my DH out of the bed (I was in the casino at that time) and we were awakened at 6 by the biggest wave and rolled over and went back to sleep. It was a rough night but we have booked again with confidence that all will be well. If not, we will deal with it as it happens, like in April. It sounds like the Spirit pax dealt with the rough seas very well. I am so glad they are all home safe and sound. When do you sail again? Hope it is with us. capecod40 Posted January 25, 2006 #161 Share Posted January 25, 2006 My spouse and I were also on this cruise. Our room was on deck 11, aft, starboard. This was our 6th cruise, first in the N. Atlantic also our roughest. We almost felt like we were on a sailboat as the ship was leaning starboard from the high winds. It was scary sitting in the cabin, as I was holding onto the side of the mattress while watching TV to keep from sliding across the bed. We decided to go down to the casino to take our minds off it. We used the stairs, didn't trust the elevators at that point. I stopped at a glass door overlooking the deck of deck 7, in between the casino and the sports bar, a wave hit and I witnessed a waitress run from a tv that flew across the sports bar lounge, it hit the floor hard. She was lucky she wasn't hit. I didn't have much fear, as the crew handled it well. They all went on with a smile and acted as if the storm was of no big concern. I've been on airplanes were you could see panic on the stewardess's face and that scared me. My husband and I were never sea sick. We also went to dinner with no problems. I was glad that we had booked a specialty restaurant because with the Garden restaurant closed it would have been hard to get a seat at Windows. The only complaint was that we were to pack our luggage before dinner, as it was our last night. The movement made it impossible till later in the evening when it calmed down some. Over all a wonderful cruise and NCL has some great staff.

The caps lock seems to be stuck. -Monte Can't speak for the 01/08 sailing as I and Miss Goldenbonny are speaking of the 12/29 sailing.........if there was a thirty foot wave it must of happened whilst I was sleeping as I did not see any such thing.....a little rough going down....yes it was, but hubby & I enjoyed it as we kinda had the ship to ourselves and a few others that were not sick or didn't mind the motion. The bridge report did say "very rough seas" "swells of 18-20 feet"..must of missed the report of 30 foot waves:rolleyes: You have to expect this at this time of the year in the Mid Atlantic. More then likely the reason there were no crusies to the South from NY in the winter for a very long time. I did NOT have to FLY during the holidays so a day of rough seas was only a minor distraction for me:) :) :)

Arwenmark Posted January 26, 2006 #165 Share Posted January 26, 2006 Remember the hoopla over Michael Jackson holding his baby out over the balcony? Well EVERY cruise I have been on I see at least ONE parent usually more that sits a small child up on the railing usually in port or during sail away. And I have seen some of them just hold the child with one hand while smoking or doing something else with the other hand. Makes me sick every time I see it.
