Transferring cruise

Please could anyone give me some advice for my friend

cruise M005A has been booked including flights,  total deposit was £1400,  Total cost of cruise and flights Is @ £10k

they now need  to transfer to another cruise

They know there is an admin fee to change the cruise, and aware it has to be equal or more cost wise, ideally the new cruise would be out of Southampton so no flights required

however they are being told by the TA (who say they have confirmed with Cunard) that they need to book a cruise that is in excess of the total costs £10k

Has anyone had experience of this  ? It seems to me a bit unfair

hope that makes sense, any advice appreciated

just to confirm booked in the UK

I think we are talking about a 2020 cruise by the cruise number. I am not certain the basis of their original cruise pricing, but it would seem to me that since they are not with in a cancellation penalty period, they should be able to cancel the cruise and book another one with no penalty. Perhaps some of our U.K. posters can shed light on this situation.

In the UK you lose your deposit no matter how far out your  cruise may ,I believe that you  have booked a Fly cruise package if with Cunard then the total price includes the flights as that package not as separate items

I'm from the US and thus have no actual experience in these matters, but the UK booking conditions talk about transferring to another "package". On the Cunard UK website, opting for Cunard air on voyage M005A (Singapore to Sydney) is a separate item for an additional £450 per person from London or £540 from other airports. But once purchased, I suppose that becomes part of the "package" and thus figures into the total fare that must be matched in a substitute cruise even if that substitute cruise does not have an airfare component. That's how I interpret it anyway, for what it's worth (probably not much).

We cancelled and rebooked a cruise a bit more expensive £1 more will do deposit & OBC retained £100 admin fee  no flying 4 either cruise only possible with Cunard fare

For my own piece of mind I would phone Cunard in Southampton and ask if you cancel new cruise has to be higher than original cost including flights cost even if new cruise does not include flights. Your TA might be telling you the truth but knowing what some TAs are like after past experiences I would want it straight from "the horses mouth" as the saying goes.

Can you tell us what happened. It would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi sorry for late response I have just seen your post

my friend received a call back from her TA saying they had rechecked with Cunard and it was just the cost of the cruise that was taken into account should they wish to transfer
