Luggage limits

On their Frequently Asked Questions page, NCL says:

Each person is allowed up to two pieces of personal luggage on board, with each piece weighing a maximum of 50 pounds. However, if passengers are traveling by air, they need to check with the airline for specific restrictions.

Do they enforce that?  Without going into details we may be in a situation where an extra suitcase will enter the picture.  We have a suite, so I'm not concerned about where to put it.

We have never seen it enforced. Since luggage is dropped off with porters I'm not sure how it could be enforced. The only problem you may face is where you will store the empty bags in your stateroom. Having some bags that can fit inside others would be a help.

Don't bother bringing that 100 lb steamer trunk no matter what cruise you are - you are not relocating your homestead.

Oh and leave the kitchen sink where it is you won't have any need for it NCL is cooking and dealing with the clean up duties.

2 bags per person seems reasonable - best if these bags have WHEELS - really no one lugs luggage around any more.

Weight won't matter too much with the WHEELS taking the load in stride. Where the weight will really matter is with the

airline if traveling by air depending on class of ticket - over 50 lbs expect to pay a surcharge. Pack the overweight excess

into another bag or carry-on and worse case scenario wear the extra weight.

Closets are small on the ships - luggage is stored under your bed and like an above poster said store one inside of another.

Need extra storage space use one or more of the suitcases as that storage facility.

Boarding the ship NCL will do the heavy work getting your luggage on board and placed at your stateroom door.

Disembarking NCL can do the same - but if you are making a hurried departure to make a flight or other ground transport

the Walk-Off is best done with lightweight luggage with wheels.

If using porters at any point boarding or disembarking consider an extra bill or two for overweight luggage.

Make sure your luggage has ID tags and remove all previous cruise airline tags to avoid misrouting of your luggage.

Another suggestion - place a copy of your eDocs and an extra copy of your cabin tags INSIDE each piece of luggage -

this just in case your luggage loses it handle ID tags - it keeps the Lost & Found mystery manageable.

You didn't want to know all this - but now that you have read this far - game the system and enjoy the cruise !

Thanks.  This isn't about over-packing, mostly good news resulting in us having a suitcase full of stuff we don't need on the cruise that we need to ship home from another location the day we fly to the port.  There are services for shipping luggage or we could just bring it along.  Trying to decide which way to go. Now that I read the FAQ again I see that it is 2 bags per person, so it's not an issue.

No. Give your bags to a porter and tip them. They will accept as many and as heavy a bag as you want.
