Good Morning

we are frequent cruisers with many companies but Princess will be a first. Alaska.

A few questions. We are expecting the ship to be a much younger set than the adult only P&O ships. And Alaska will not be scorching weather so...

What temperature can we expect inside the ship. Americans often like the AC up high and a cool temperature. Will I need a long sleeve shirt and pullover.

Do the cabins have tea coffee making facilities. Us Brits love a cuppa morning and evening.

Will most passengers be from Canadaand USA. Will we see many of us Brits.

What is the tipping situation. Is it a set rate per day added to your account. More and more British ships are scrapping this outdated process.

Is there anything else nice to know on this new line to us.

Thanking you all in anticipation of helpful answers.

I never noticed the temperature inside the ship, which means it was very comfortable to me.  Bring a long sleeve shirt and pullover anyway.  It's Alaska.  You never know.

The cabin do not have beverage making facilities.  Room service will be happy to deliver them.

The tipping is a set amount per day added to your room.

There will be a mixture of passengers, including Brits.  But most will likely be Americans out there tipping and turning the AC down.  Heathens.

We always bring a cover up. It can get cool in some of the venues. Cabins have individual thermostats which give you some control over the in cabin temperature.

No. If you want morning coffee or tea you can order from room service, no charge, or you can go to the Horizon Ct. buffet area on deck 14 forward where coffee and tea are available all day and evening at no charge. Specialty teas, brewed coffee, espresso drinks are available for a charge at the International cafe on deck 6 and at a few other areas around the ship.

Will most passengers be from Canada and USA. Will we see many of us Brits.

Yes, expect 80% or so to be from North America. There is normally a good number of British on board. If you are going from mid June to late August expect a lot of families. This is the season when school is not in session.

What is the tipping situation. Is it a set rate per day added to your account. More and more British ships are scrapping this outdated process.

If you are in a balcony, outside or inside category cabin your on board account will be charged US$14.50/pp/day. This is the hotel charge gratuity and covers the tips for the cabin steward, food waiters, and others that you probably will not see. If you are in a mini suite the charge is US$15.50/pp/day and a full suite it is US$16.50/pp/day. The hotel charge gratuity can be pre-paid in the cruise personlizer. If you have excess OBC then it is probably a good move not to pre-pay. An 18% gratuity is added to all beverage purchases.

The Coral is a very nice ship with only 2,000 passengers. It has lots of nice venues and great upper deck viewing areas.

Remember to pack layered clothing for the outdoors. Bring a rain jacket, hat and good shoes. It can be anything from very warm summer like to cold.

If you are a military vet. then look up Princess Military Benefit on line. If you own at least 100 shares of Carnival stock then look up the Carnival shareholder benefit on line.

Thanking you all in anticipation of helpful answers.

Alaska overall attracts an older demographic than the Caribbean. Sorry, can't compare it to P&O.

No, there is not a kettle in the stateroom.

Tipping is still a very common and expected practice on cruise ships. Sort of "When in Rome.....". I always research what the norm is and adjust accordingly to what is expected of me.

The only time you might want cash for a tip is a couple of dollars for any room service deliveries you elect to order.  Remainder of the tips are automatically applied to any pay-for beverages (like cocktails, specialty coffee/teas etc) you purchase, plus the auto tip per person applied daily to your room charge that is pooled and paid to the wide variety of crew providing services.

Coral is our favorite ship, and Alaska our favorite itinerary- have a great cruise!

Love the Coral and loved Alaska although went there with HAL.  Did not like P & O - sorry.

The temperatures inside the ship will be fine but dress in layers for Alaska.  It could be warm, or wet or cold or mixture of all on the same day.  Very beautiful though.

Loved sharing dining tables with Americans and Canadians, met some lovely people.

Don't stress and just enjoy the new experience.

The enclosed Lotus Pool area is heated/cooled but can be very chilly in Glacier Bay.  We normally check out a couple of the Pendleton blankets they use for the Movies Under the Stars.  Small wool blankets.  Normally in Alaska we wear shorts and T shirts everywhere but need the blankets in the pool area.

We have had 22C temperatures in Alaska in September while others had 7C in July.
