Carnival Spirit Can you bring a bottle of wine on embarking

Will be cruising on Spirit to South Pacific in February. Are you allowed to brin a bottle of wine onboard at embarkation? I understand BYO alcohol is prohibited but have read some cruise lines allow a bottle of wine on embarkation?

This is the policy on Princess and also on Carnival in the USA, but are you sure that this is the policy on Carnival in Australia?

Liquor and Beverage Policy

A liquor and beverage consumption policy was created in order for Carnival to be able to control the liquor consumption of minors and the quantities consumed that lead to the disruptive behavior of others on board.

Bringing Alcohol On Board - Embarkation Day

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board.

On embarkation day, each guest may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages on board and only in their carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 cartons and/or cans, 600ml each or less.

The following beverage items cannot be brought onboard our ships:

• Plastic or glass bottled drinks (opened or unopened) including water

All excessive quantities of non-alcoholic beverages (over 12 per person, sealed, unopened bottles/cans) will be confiscated and stored for safekeeping until the end of the voyage. The retained item(s) will be available for collection onboard in a designated location on the morning of debarkation.

Unsealed liquids that are prohibited will be discarded, as well as any unclaimed items left after the voyage, and no compensation will be given in either case.

 

According to this, NO alcoholic beverages can be taken on board.

 

An Australian on-line TA has a round-up of alcohol policies on the various cruise lines. They have the following:

Carnival Australia
Carnival Cruise Line Australia does not allow any alcohol to be brought onboard its Australian sailings. Sailings in the US allow one bottle of wine or champagne per person at embarkation.

You may, however, bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages onboard, only in their carry-on luggage. This is defined as a maximum of 12 bottles and/or cans of no more than 600mls. Unsealed liquids will be discarded.

 

Once again, this information states that you cannot take wine on board Carnival cruise ships operating out of Australia, which I assume your question related to.

The fact that the google search showed "21 years of age and older" indicates that it does not relate to cruises from Australia where the drinking age is 18. 😀

Yep, it looks to be the case. The bottle of wine is for Carnival U.S. only.

The bottle of wine does not apply in Australia. The terms and conditions for cruises out of Australia are completely different from those that apply to other Carnival cruises. Make sure you get your information from carnival.com.au.

Extracted from our current booking Cruise Contract with Carnival Australia:-

 

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board. Any alcohol purchased in the vessel’s gift shops or at a port of call will be collected by Us for safe keeping and will be returned to You on the last day of Your cruise. Any uncollected alcohol will be discarded after the cruise and no compensation will be given.

I can confirm that Australian based Carnival cruises will only allow you to bring on  12 cans of soft drink or water per person.

Carnival Australia, don't let you bring any bottle of wine or alcohol on board at Embarking.

They don't let you bring bottles of water either. You can only bring 12 per person cans or tetra packs of soft drinks, in your carry-on luggage. Must be 500 mls or less per can....

They introducted a Beverage package back in October & trialing it here in Australia for 6 months till the end of April. It's $119 per person per day. Every-one over 18 in cabin has to have it & is limited to 15 drinks per day.. You can purchase up to a $20 drink with it (hi end spirits)... ps:Hardly anyone has taken it up on the 2 cruises I have done with it on...

At $119 a day, I am not surprised that hardly anyone has taken up the beverage package.
