Joy embarkment on March 8th, San Pedro.

Got here at 945.  Line for security was almost to the end of the block but moved fast when open.  Boarding number 5.  We are in the concierge line and it took 20 minutes.  The regular lines are taking forever.  The line next to us has had about 20 people helped in 30 minutes. The group in teal to the left still has not been helped at 40 minutes.

Was the concierge line easily identifiable? I've been dreading embarkation since I started reading about San Pedro Pier.

I hope you have the unlimited beverage package. You're going to need a drink as soon as you're on board!

No the area is not.  Go all the way to the end and it is a single line (no weaving) labeled priority access.  When done checking in there is a seating area for you.  Nothing special, but not congested.

You have to pay California sales tax on all beverages while at Port. We left late last week and paid a few bucks in taxes ourselves

The temp scans were quick.  They did not let anyone go through the security area until a little after 10am.  A lot of people were still getting off the ship when we arrived.  The counters for your cards were extremely slow and not enough workers.

Oh Lordy... departing on 3/22 with my hubby who has mobility issues.  I sure hope we find handicap help. 🙄

Did you have a concierge class room or Haven class to use the priority check in?

 

We have a concierge class room on the 3/22 sailing and this would make it so much easier since we fly into LAX at 11:30

On the Joy they are interchangeable.  You might have to 'convince' the ignorant port personnel, but as Concierge class you get the same benefit as Haven at check in.

You have to be VERY proactive with the port personnel.  It is even more confusing for them with the Joy because it is the only NCL ship with a concierge class.  In other words, the vast majority do not know the policy NCL wants them to apply so you have to 'educate' them.
