Me too. I find my room is a sanctuary from the rest of the ship. Besides, if I sit on the balcony for more than 3 mins when we are out to see, I fall asleep. :) Ocean naps are wonderful!
Caribbean Chris Posted September 25, 2020 #52 Share Posted September 25, 2020 The first time I cruised with my then-new service dog, I was so nervous about the logistics I booked a suite, reasoning that we’d have more space for a 70-lb Lab and her stuff. Around that time, X had just introduced the butlers. When we arrived and the butler stopped by, I asked her for assistance in locating the dog’s relief station (since the front desk had been clueless, and this was a key topic to resolve quickly). The apparently dumbfounded young woman giggled, stared, and kept saying she had never seen a service dog before. She never took any steps to help so we eventually solved the problem ourselves with housekeeping. Our butlers and room stewards since then have been much more helpful. One butler greeted us and, without being asked, volunteered to escort us to the relief area location any time we were ready. Another went ashore in St. Maarten and personally brought back a big bag of garden mulch when X Miami had not provisioned the necessary filler for the box. Several people mentioned party arrangements, and that’s an area where the butler can really shine. We had a little party in our suite for two other couples last November, and the arrangements were perfect with delectable shrimp and cheese platters provided and our wine & champagne chilled. It was so much fun and made the cruise extra-special.

Just to say, ALL the crew work hard. Not just the butlers. I don't always have a suite and those cabin attendants work pretty hard too. As do many others behind the scenes. Those in the laundry room. The galley. Cleaners keeping the ship clean. It's why I feel so bad for them all just now. Here's an idea. Next time on the ship and the thoughts move toward tips think about contributing to the staff welfare fund. Then the fun and wealth is shared around. Doesn't matter how much. I'm sure it's all appreciated. That's what I do now. Phil Edited September 25, 2020 by excitedofharpenden
