We are booked on 15th November Sky cruise, flying in 2 days earlier to Miami from UK.  I'm 50/50 whether this will go ahead and if I want to go.  However our balance is due in July, if I cancel I lose just over a £1000 non-refundable deposit.  We booked through a cruise travel agent.  So I'm thinking it's probably best to pay and hope cruise is cancelled. I think that way I'm entitled too a full refund through the agent.  If cruise goes ahead I would probably go, or may have option to move to another next year.  However, the way Florida is looking at the moment our foreign office may advise not to travel, then I should be entitled too a full refund hopefully.  Hard to decide what to do.

Hi we are from the UK and are booked on this 15 Nov cruise same as you and we fly in two days early as well. Our final payment is due 19 July and ours is also a non refundable deposit. Our friends who were cruising for the first time have decided to not pay balance and forfeit deposit as they are too scared to travel this year regardless. I just don’t know what to do as we are still awaiting some refunds for previous flights and hotels booked for April and May just gone and the balance for this holiday is quite a bit of money. I worry about the cruise co going bust and then having to fight to get monies back. I also don’t know whether I want to fly to Florida and cruise this year... I have spoken with the TA and she is seeing if we can move Our deposit over to the 7 Feb 2021 different Caribbean itinerary which I am fine with.  She is coming Bach to me tomorrow to advise and I’ll see what extra charges would be involved. At least balance wouldn’t be due until October then. It’s so hard to make a decision I don’t want to lose our deposit but I don’t like paying the balance without good news being released about COVID...

Hi, I would be interested to know if you are able to change fairly easily. Quite interested in the 18th Feb 2021 cruise, very similar itinerary to November.  I really don't know what to do.  My husband would go if it's sailing, but I am very nervous about the whole situation. Ideally I want them to cancel the cruise so I can hopefully get a full refund.

Hi Cabernet Girl 😁

I am the same as you... just wonder if I really want to fly this year at all tbh and America sounds a lot worse than the UK regarding second outbreaks in Florida. I too would like Princess to cancel before the final balance is due and then decision is made for me and I can have my deposit refunded.
I will put on this thread what the TA says about the February sailing when she gets back to me hopefully tomorrow. If it’s pretty much same price and most of the deposit will be transferred I would be happy to do this as final balance not then due until October. Hopefully we will know a lot more regarding the virus then.

With the current spike in the virus in key cruise areas  and chance of this making a dramatic fall of the curve right now this cruise will be cancelled.

Fingers crossed it’s before the final balance due which I don’t think it will be... I just didn’t want all the money tied up them. We already are fighting over flight monies and hotels for breaks we were supposed to go on in April and May and I don’t want to be waiting months for a refund off Princess.

This is the letter we received for the 11/23 Sky cruise;

Important update regarding your Booking #XKGC8T

Dear Donald,

Due to reduced flight availability, the closure of cruise ports in regions around the world and other factors impacting travel, it is with a heavy heart that Princess is extending our pause of global ship operations.

We know you were looking forward to sailing with us, and we apologize and share in your disappointment over this cancellation. We would love nothing more than to explore the world with you; unfortunately, that isn’t possible at this time.

We hope you will stick with us by accepting this special Double your Deposit Future Cruise Credit offer:

  • Transfer the money deposited for your vacation as a refundable Future Cruise Credit (FCC) and Princess will provide a matching bonus FCC for the same amount up to the base cruise fare amount of the current cruise (minimum $100 per person).

This requires no action from you and gives our team a chance to shine at a later date by using the Future Cruise Credits above on any voyage through May 1, 2022. To find out the amount of your base cruise fare, please log in to Cruise Personalizer ❯, see your booking confirmation email or ask your travel advisor.

Alternatively, you can forfeit the bonus FCC and request a refund for all money paid on your booking by using this online form ❯. If we don't hear from you by June 15, 2020, you will automatically receive the default FCC offer.

Money paid in excess of the cruise fare for Princess Vacation Protection, taxes, fees and port expenses, airfare or hotel packages will be refunded or transferred to a new booking if you’re ready to rebook. In any event prepaid shore excursions and/or special service items will be refunded. Click here ❯ for full details.

We ask for your continued patience in affording us the time to work through the refunds and FCCs properly. Because we are not able to use our usual automated process, our team is manually handling a large volume of requests while working from home. We want to make sure each guest's booking is handled as accurately and efficiently as possible, and this is taking more time.

When you are ready to rebook, please contact Princess or the original agency where you booked your cruise to redeem your Future Cruise Credit.

It saddens us to think about the impact on the livelihood of our teammates, business partners and the communities we visit. We look forward to the day when you can sail with us, and we can serve you once again.

Sincerely,

We are on both the 5/5 and 5/15 cruises and our cruise on the 15th is showing a due date in October.Maybe yours is 3 months earlier because you are in the UK.

We are on the 5/15 Sky cruise our final payment was due July but understand that Princess have change final payment to 60 days before, instead of 90 days. Have contacted my TA to check. Usually have to pay earlier if booking through a TA in UK.

Could it be because its only a 5 day cruise? Perhaps they are deep cleaning ships between each sailing and allowing 24 hours before resailing thus changing to a 4 day sailing for you. We are booked on 15th and have not been notified of cancellation.

Am I reading this wrong?  We are on Sky 15th - 25th November, so how could you have been on a cruise starting the 23rd November on Sky?  Am I missing something here?

I am on the Nov 5th 10 day Sky reposition from NYC to the Carib.  I  have  not received any information about our cruise being cancelled. I have friends on this cruise and they haven't heard anything either. I will keep checking here so if you hear any updates please share it here.

I have read the Euro  plan about travel and I don't think the U.S. with all the coronavirus wants any travelers.A number of Carib. islands have strict rules.

Hi Cabernet Girl

we would have to Pay an additional £820 to transfer to the February sailing which includes £400 non refundable amendment fees. I got a quote elsewhere and it would work out cheaper to book with them and cancel and lose deposit than pay this. We decided that it’s not worth paying this for another 11 weeks delay on going out cruising. I have asked them to advise what deposit money if any we would have To transfer to just a cruise going out of Southampton. Don’t think it will be much but I just don’t know whether I want to fly ,...

Remember Princess takes one cruise and has several different embarkation ports.  So you can take a 25 day cruise and do it as 23 or 19 or 7 days as an example.  Ours was a TA out of Southampton.

Personally, the point where I'd start forfeiting money to a cruise line would be the point where I'd stop even THINKING about cruising for at least a couple of years until the whole cluster*@#^ got sorted out.

Hi, I think our plan at the moment is to pay balance on the 24th and hope it gets cancelled.  The islands look ok, but Florida is not looking good at the moment.  Just going to play it by ear.

Unfortunately for all the cruise lines I believe this will be true. I doubt if they'll have enough people cruising in the near future to be profitable.

Were we live most people are afraid to go shopping without a mask & gloves, no less be cramped up on a ship for a vacation. I seriously doubt if the cruise lines can hold out that long. :classic_sad:

But bookings for 2021 are way up. Yes new bookings are up. The demand is there, they can't conduct business at the moment.
Now I agree if this goes on much long lines won't survive. I'm worried about the big lines at this point surviving too.
