Impact of e-Cigarettes on Board Oceania?

I was reading about smoking policies on board different cruise lines and came across this article on CruiseCritic, which says in part, regarding Oceania's smoking policy, "E-cigarettes may be smoked anywhere apart from dining venues (including outside seating areas)."

I would rather not be exposed to vapor from these and am wondering how prevalent vaping is on board and if anyone has been impacted by this while enjoying your balcony or public areas?

That must be an old article (or not recently updated). On Oceania, E-cigs were very briefly allowed several years ago but the policy was quickly changed to treat them like regular cigarettes - only allowed in the one corner of the pool deck and the enclosure in Horizons Bar.

Thanks...... The article is still active on this (CruiseCritic) website, but it is not dated.   It also references Holland America Lines as allowing smoking on balconies, but I believe that was changed.

Glad to hear that eCigs are limited to the designated smoking areas.

I would like to believe that eCigs are restricted to the designated smoking areas, but this paragraph from Oceania's Terms and Conditions is from the current Oceania site (my highlight):

Smoking
For the safety and security of all guests and staff on board, Designated Smoking Areas are available on the forward, starboard corner of the Pool Deck and in the aft, port corner of Horizons. These areas are comfortably furnished and conveniently located near food and beverage areas. Smoking is expressly forbidden in all staterooms and suites, on verandas, or in any areas of the ship other than officially Designated Smoking Areas. Smoking in a stateroom or suite or on a veranda represents a serious fire and safety hazard to all guests and staff. Guests choosing to disregard this policy will be disembarked at the next port of call and may also be subject to additional fees that will be imposed to cover the costs associated with any damage to and the required cleaning of furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck and accommodation areas. All areas other than those specified as Designated Smoking Areas will remain smoke-free. This includes all guest suites and staterooms, verandas, restaurants, public areas, the Casino and all other areas of the ship. Cigar and pipe smoking is only permitted on the forward, starboard corner of the Pool Deck. Guests are welcome to use Electronic Cigarettes except in dining venues which includes indoor and outdoor seating.

That would seem to indicate that they are OK to use anywhere except dining venues.

The good news is that few older adults vape ("Two-in-ten Americans ages 18 to 29 said they vape, compared with 8% of those ages 30 to 64 and fewer than 0.5% among those 65 and old") according to this article from Pew Research - published September 26, 2019.

However, I would not be happy if the vapor from a balcony next to mine drifted over.

Old T&C language sometimes escapes the editors. Check out the Oceania website FAQs where it's clear that: "The use of electronic cigarettes is allowed within designated smoking areas only."

Hopefully the Terms and Conditions language for future cruises is updated to reflect the FAQ language.  I assume the T&C language would be the overriding document if someone was to question whether or not they could vape on their balcony.

Not quite as regards passenger behaviors once onboard.

Read the T&Cs: the ultimate authority (including interpreting/changing/waiving/instituting rules et al. During your cruise) resides with the ship's master.

That said, rest assured that, if someone smokes or vapes anywhere other than the two designated locations (pool deck corner and Horizons enclosure), it will be handled AND then you'll probably see a brief policy reminder in the Currents daily newsletter soon thereafter. Same goes for bringing personal booze outside of your cabin (other than to meals for which one pays the $25 per bottle corkage fee).

The Corkage is  for wine  not spirits  just to be clear

But you still see people sneaking drinks  out of their cabin 🙄

Yes - thanks! Personal wine OK for restaurants with corkage fee. Personal spirits - only in the cabin. Of course, there is the occasional idiot who threatens O's rather liberal personal booze policy by violating the rules.

Most of the Food & Beverage managers I know will hold fast to the rule and ask offenders aside for a word or two.

BTW, what offenders may not realize is that there is a dedicated stock of cabin glassware, which is easily spotted by most food & beverage staff.
