lineman Posted May 18, 2021 #1 Share Posted May 18, 2021 Going on a cruise out of FLL. in late Nov.and will be going down a week early and wanting to stay at a Marriott property since we are Titanium elite members . We don't need a place on the beach, but would like a place close to eating places and where we could on a short cruise of the waterways in Fll., Would the Renaissance on 17th street be a good place to stay? JohninDC Posted May 18, 2021 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2021 Yes -lots of nearby dining and shopping options. www.sunny.org will give you lots of tourist info on the area - water taxi, etc. Have a great cruise! 😎

It is a very nice place to stay and convenient to many food option, if it is within your budget. I liked it 2-1/2 year ago now
sandancer Posted May 19, 2021 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2021 We just booked the Renaissance. They have a great long stay room rate for 7 nights. Booked direct with Marriott as we are Rewards members.
Cruiser Who Knows Nothing Posted May 20, 2021 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2021 Do the W Hotel - without a doubt and since you're there for a week - its the place and location to be. Or the Westin a couple blocks south of the W. If you want a more resorty place, the Marriott Harbor Beach is awesome too. To us, the Renaissance is nice for the night prior to departure, but its in such a congested area and it feels like if you were to stay in a business district of a larger city. Nice property, but way too commercial.
KeepCalmBearOn Posted May 29, 2021 #6 Share Posted May 29, 2021 The Renaissance is fine for a one night stay before a cruise, but for a week I'd start by looking at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach, then the W, Westin, Marriott's BeachPlace Towers and Courtyard, in that order.

The thing I don't like about beach place is their pool area. I know, the ocean is across the street, but I do enjoy a nice pool and deck area.

Its also a great place to burn some points since you are a Marriott elite, as its a category 7 which is only one redemption level above many of the others listed here and is by far the nicest out of all of them. MKellyUtah Posted June 4, 2021 #9 Share Posted June 4, 2021 I'm a Marriott Reward member & like their properties, and have stayed at Embassy Suites, Renaissance & others in FLL, as well as the previously mentioned Hyatt. My latest go-to in FLL is Best Western Oceanside-Plus ... because of comfort, location & price. It's on the main street where 17th turns to go along the ocean ... it's back about 50-100 yards from the beach (you have to walk past a couple of building to get there, but the access is easy) ... the rooms are clean & comfortable ... staff are excellent ... a small bar on site. You can walk down to places to eat & drink, or hop the Trolley that will take you back up to the familiar Harbor restaurants & shops. Water Taxi dock is also right across the street. Price is reasonable (I've paid between $135-$150 a night the last 4 times I've stayed there). I'm booked there again pre and post cruise in December. A good option to consider. As MKellyUtah said I agree. I have stayed at the Best Western Oceanside for the past 5 years. No shuttle from airport to hotel, taxi around $30, Uber cheaper, they can arrange for $ shuttle to Port Everglades (ask at the desk). They have $ washer/dryer (if staying a few days nice to have), $ bikes, hot free breakfast, bar that sells food, Sun Trolley and regular bus outside the door, water taxi with walking distance, clean rooms, friendly staff. You are 100 yards from the beach (go out the front or out back by the pool to get to the beach) without paying beach front price. Call and ask for Manager’s Special rate. But when the OP asks very specifically for a Marriott property and probably has a gazillion points to use or perks to claim, why would you recommend non-Marriott properties?
MKellyUtah Posted June 5, 2021 #12 Share Posted June 5, 2021 Scottca075 Sorry you disapprove of my response. I (and another poster) were simply offering reasonably-priced options to the OP. I trust the OP can decide whether or not the information is of any use to them.

I do disapprove of your response because I wonder if you read the OP's question. The OP didn't ask for "reasonably-priced options". They asked for Marriott properties. Then they asked if the Renaissance was good. You said you'd stayed at the Renaissance, but offered zero feedback on it and went immediately into a sales job on the BW. Yes, I disapprove.
MKellyUtah Posted June 5, 2021 #14 Share Posted June 5, 2021 (edited) Yeah, okay. I can live with your disapproval ... you can be the "proper post" police ... and the OP can decide if the information was of any value to them.. Have a good day ... I agree with you, Scottca075's sarcastic reply is the exact reason I stayed away from these Boards, his response certainly was NOT helpful. Let's be nice people...even if some of you think you are smarter then the rest of us.....
