Ice and once a day service....

We use lots of ice!  We buy drinks for the cabin and I have to ice my old arthritic knees often.  We used to bring a small insulated cooler that the stewards filled twice a day.  Now what should we do?  I would imagine my personal cooler which they used to haul down to the ice machine to fill, may be considered too "germy" under the new protocols.  Has anyone requested 2 ice buckets (which the offered to me on RCCL)?  The last time we asked for ice from room service, they said to ask my cabin steward.  My cabin steward said to call room service.  With once a day service, we will need more ice (and towels for that matter).  I don't mind once a day service, but how do I get my ice?

We were on the Breeze two weeks ago and asked for ice.  We also asked for evening service, but our wonderful Room Steward brought us ice twice a day. - once mid-morning (if we weren't in, he left it) and then with the evening service.  We had two ice buckets after the first day.  As for towels, they are asking, if possible, to reuse some towels.   You leave the towels on the floor for new ones and hang up those that can be reused again.   They will definitely bring you more towels, if asked.   I know some may think this is normal service, but we made sure to trip our Room Steward extra at the end of the cruise because of his excellent service which made our cruise even more-enjoyable.  BTW, how does the the crew remember our names so easily - at the very beginning and throughout the cruise?  Not just the Room Steward or MDR staff, but several staff that I spoke to just briefly saw me again and called me by name, asking how my cruise was going.  This has always amazed me.

In the past we have always told our room steward that all we wanted was to have our ice bucket full and fresh towels everyday. Of course we got the usual cleaning, and the ice and towels, too! In 20 cruises we've never had a bad room steward. And we always tip extra for both the room steward and helper. These people are fantastic.

Being lousy with names, this has always been a mystery to me.  There must be a special class they attend to learn tricks to remember.  Maybe they use a physical attribute for word (name) association.

For our first cruise on the Destiny when she still smelled new, our assistant waiter kept calling me "Sir".  I detest that title and just said "You can call me Dick."   I laughed when he said "It's easier calling people "Sir" than trying to remember everybody's name."

We always cruise with my brother and sister in law, Jim and Diane.  The have always put us together in a booth.  On one cruise, the waiter kept calling my wife Linda, Diane.  After the third or fourth time of correcting him, she just let on like she was Diane.

Our last cruise on the Horizon, our waiter kept calling me James.  Same there.  After a while I just smiled and let on like I was a James.

All I know is that they are amazing!   One server in the MDR our first night got my daughter's and my names mixed up.  He came back later to apologize and was right every night afterwards.  Amazing!!!

Names, cabin, table numbers, they remember it all.

I recognized a waiter on Horizon this summer from the Inaugural Vista cruise years earlier, and he remembered what table I was sitting at on Vista.

How absolutely genuine.   I truly don't know how they do it.   They also remember preferences for eating, etc.  My first cruise I fell in love with the cold soups and the first night ordered one for an app and then the same for dessert.  Each night thereafter if I had a cold soup for an appetizer, the server would automatically bring me another for dessert.  Loved that!   In the casino, I don't drink alcoholic beverages, but love non-alcoholic "fancy" drinks (as my daughter and I call them).  The server remembered which ones I liked each time afterwards, including that I like a bottled water in between.  Amazing!
