Magicbar Posted October 24, 2021 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2021 Thinking about ordering these for our Nov. 15 Odyssey Cruise. I assume that if I bring these on the flight down to Fort Lauderdale, that I will need to keep them in my carry on. Anyone have any issues doing so? Rare Sea Dog Posted October 25, 2021 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2021 I plan on keeping them in my back pack. I do not want to risk it putting them in checked luggage or even carryon if they say they don't have enough room for carryons in the overheads.
sharktums Posted October 25, 2021 #3 Share Posted October 25, 2021 I have traveled with the kits in my backpack and had no questions or problems.

Jasukkie Posted October 25, 2021 #6 Share Posted October 25, 2021 I fly about once a month and I always have one of these kits in my carry-on, just in case. Never had any problems.

I ordered mine in September to use in December and they have been sitting in my fridge since then. Hope I didn't mess them up! 😬

I'd take the tests out, and if you're worried, use one of them without the phone call to make sure it's still good. My son did the opposite: he stored the ones I gave him in his garage over a hot weekend, but they were fine for use. THAT was a phone-drop and RUN conversation when I told him!!!
publicpersona Posted October 26, 2021 #9 Share Posted October 26, 2021 The kit contains a tiny amount of liquid. And you can’t open the kit to put the reagent bottle into your 3 oz liquids bag. So technically if you have them in carry-on, you’re running afoul of TSA. Can’t imagine this being a problem, though. Just be aware.
foxgoodrich Posted October 26, 2021 #10 Share Posted October 26, 2021 Yes, the test requires that you put 6 drops of the reagent into a hole in the cardboard card. The bottle probably has a couple of extra drops. I haven't heard of it being a problem...

Hope I didn't mess them up! 😬 You should be ok; most refrigerators are set at 35 - 37 degrees anyway. Water doesn't freeze until 32 degrees, and I'm sure the liquid in the little vials isn't just water. You might want to just store them at room temperature now, though :-)
SRF Posted October 27, 2021 #12 Share Posted October 27, 2021 Standard refrigerator temp is 40 degrees F or 4C.
