coevan Posted April 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2022 Are there any river cruises that do not have set meal times, not our favorite. We were sold on AMA until we learned dinner was at 7 for everyone. Any suggestions for a river cruise with more liberal meal times?
sharkster77 Posted April 20, 2022 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2022 (edited) As far as I know, all the major river cruise lines (Viking, Vantage, Avalon, AMA, etc) have fixed time for dinner, with a more flexible arrangement for breakfast and lunch. Rare gnome12 Posted April 20, 2022 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2022 With fewer than 200 passengers (usually considerably fewer) and a very small space in which to cook, it isn't surprising that a river cruise can't deal with people eating at different time.
coevan Posted April 20, 2022 Author #4 Share Posted April 20, 2022 Thank you all, guess we’ll have to adjust accordingly. Usually staying on land in Europe we eat between 9-10, quite usually for Europe
sharkster77 Posted April 21, 2022 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2022 If your ship offers a kitchen tour take it---you will be amazed with how much they can accomplish in an incredibly tiny space!
TMLAalum Posted April 21, 2022 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2022 I know Avalon offers a minimized buffet in the lounge at dinner. Thishelps you avoid the lengthy dining room meal, which can extend to two hours!

Rare mj_holiday Posted May 11, 2022 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2022 I just read an Avalon review that said dinner was from 7 - 9 and you could be seated any time within these times for dinner. DH and I are not fans of dinner seating at one time.
NBG1998 Posted May 24, 2022 #10 Share Posted May 24, 2022 I thought I had read that Uniworld had limited room service on some of its ships for part of the day (not 24 hours). Might be worth looking into.
