Sea Day Activities

Good morning everyone. My daughter has searched for this answer but has been unable to locate anything. We are on the 2/10 cruise from San Francisco to Hawaii. Does Princess add any additional “sea days” activities due to the large number of sea days? Thank you all so much. We look forward to meeting all of you.

It will depend if you have a Cultural Ambassador on board (they are considered "entertainers.  I can only speak about LA to Hawaii experiences.  So this is a "should have" list.

1.  Port talks (not shopping talks by Princess).  Usually given by Cultural Ambassadors who are familiar with Hawaii.  One port a day.

2.  A naturalist.  Sharon ? was on the one from LA.  She was a Hawaii Volcano National Park Ranger and gave excellent talks about everything.

3.  Guest Lecturer.  Gary did his Route 66 presentation over 4 days.  He is wonderful.

4.  Cruise Director Staff will do ribbon leis and fresh orchid leis on the way back.  Plus other crafts.  VERY LIMITED space available.

5.  Ukulele Classes

6.  Hula Lessons

7.  Sometimes Cultural Ambassadors will have craft activities for a small fee.

8.  Maybe a couple of movies about Hawaii.

9.  Check out your Roll Call to meet other passengers.

10.  I am biased toward ELUA (LA to Hawaii).  Do a goggle search for Tiki Dave.

Lots more to do.

Here is an idea for the young at heart.  Take some Cruising Ducks along with you and hide them about the ship for others to find.  I attach a small tag with the wife's and my first name, the date of the cruise and the ships name.

Alaska cruise in May I found one that had been placed by a car dealer from Los Vegas.  My daughter  found a orange one without a tag.

My wife found a tag without a duck.

Have fun

Bob

See post #2. In addition as much or as little as you like. Be aware that some of the "activities" are really just fronts for sales pitches for items sold on board and spa treatments sold on the ship. In the past there were un-hosted gatherings for those that like to knit, gab, crafts, and other knitting circle type activities.

Don't forget Bingo and Trivia as always. Maybe additional games you would pay to play.

We've done several Hawaii cruises. They usually have things like hula classes, ukulele lessons, lectures on Hawaii and movies indoors during the day. I don't know if that is "additional" to what they do on other sea days, but the sea days to and from HI seem very full to me, or were pre pandemic.

There's no BIngo while cruising around the islands (but those would not be considered sea days anyway).  The casino is also closed, even in the evenings.  Unless the Captain decides to take the ship out to International Waters (outside of Kauai, sometimes).

Hula and ukulele lessons are specific to Hawaii cruises and/or sometimes the ones that include Tahiti.

Yes, be aware of the "SPA" seminars and Art Auctions.

We cruise the Caribbvean and the Bahamas. There is ALWATS BINGO on sea days. Sometimes twice a day along with trivia. Casino is never closed on a sea day.

You are correct.  Bingo/Casino is never closed on a sea day (going and coming).  Hawaii has a no gambling law (including Bingo).  As long as you remain in Hawaiian waters (between the islands), the casino will remain closed.

Example:  Cruising at night from Hilo to Honolulu/Honolulu to Kauai.  The casino will be closed.  Occasionally, the captain may take the ship outside of island waters to open the casino.  That depends on itinerary.

On our last Hawaii cruise, Mrs. XBGuy decided she would take the Hula class.  (I'm pretty sure that her greatest disappointment with me is that I cannot and, so, will not dance.)  After the first meeting she came back with a look of horror. "We're supposed to put on a show!"

She kept up with it and did fine in the show.

I thought the "Aloha Show" was cancelled due to Covid and social distancing?

I can (dance the) hula.  It's a great form of exercise.  But I am not a performer, so skip all the dancing in the Piazza, Crooners, and/or stage.  Just enjoy the experience.

I hope you sat, watched, and was her cheerleader.  It is so fun to be an observer.

Could very well be.  The cruise I was referencing was in January 2020--a couple months before the pandemic lockdown.

I did and used her iPad to record it.  She also had me sit in the audience for a couple of classes and record those sessions.  She used those recordings to practice in our cabin.  She was pretty freaked out.  Once she convinced herself to participate in the show, she was determined to do the best she could,

As I stated above she did great, and I was very proud of her.
