Usually a couple of weeks before, but sometimes it’s right up to and including the day of departure.  Depends on how full the ship is.  Who knows about an UG?

Just hope for the best.

When we have had to book a guaranteed cabin (due to specific category that we wanted), we usually had cabin assignment 48 hours before sailing.  This is since the covid start-up.

I rarely book a guarantee category, but the last time I did, the cabin assignment came in just hours before we boarded.  
 

The porters at the pier have cabin assignment lists, blank luggage tags and Sharpies.

Friends have received their Guarantee cabin on arrival at the port.

That was on a 107-day world cruise.

Many tiumes thge GTYs are assigned within a week of embarkation,

 

The latest we have had a GTY assigned was 24 hours before embarkation while we were on a plane flying to the port city.
