So enjoying your review and pictures. Do you have more Carnival cruises booked in 2023 you'll be reviewing including pictures? The wife and I are sailing Princess in 2023 March 2023 to Hawaii and Sept 2023 to Alaska. Been trying to find a S Carib itinerary in 2024 on Carnival that includes Aruba. Curacao, or Bonaire but think it's to early for 2024 still.

We are booked on a Southern cruise in January 2024 that has all 3 of those islands. Horizon Jan 6, 2024

Also want to add that we are booked on the Vista out of Port Canaveral in April 2024 that stops in Aruba and Bonaire. 😎

Day # 11  -  9/7/22  -  Saint John, NB  (8 am – 4 pm).

We were up at 6:30 am, awakened by the dreaded fog horn. Looking outside, we can see that we were sailing through a fog bank. The fog horn only lasted about five minutes, thankfully, and then we were out of the fog. Here are the views forward and aft from our balcony. In the aft view, you can see the fog bank that we sailed through…..

IMG_6353-X2.jpg

We are sailing in the Bay of Fundy, and as we get closer to Saint John, we pass the Partridge Island Lighthouse…….

IMG_6358-X2.jpg

IMG_6357-X2.jpg

IMG_6355-X2.jpg

Looking forward, we can see another fog bank on the Saint John River, where we will be docking…..

On the opposite side of the river from Saint John, it is heavily industrialized…..

The fog seems to be retreating up the Saint John River, allowing us to dock safely…..

We will be docking on the starboard side, so we won’t have the city views from our balcony…..

We were docked at 7:45 am. It is 50 degrees out now, and it will be going up to around 70 degrees later on today. I head down to the Legends Café to grab a coffee and today’s “Fun Times”……

IMG_6350-X2.jpg

IMG_6351-X2.jpg

Saint John has a sign up on the hill, much like the one in Hollywood, but on a much smaller scale. :classic_biggrin:

IMG_6386-X2.jpg

IMG_6388-X2.jpg

Just for a point of reference, the Reversing Falls are where those plumes of steam in the distance are…..

IMG_6389-X2.jpg

Around 9 am we head up to the Lido for breakfast. About an hour later, we head off the ship and into the Cruise Terminal…..

IMG_6390-X2.jpg

IMG_6392-X2.jpg

IMG_6393-X2.jpg

We have no excursions booked today. Our plan is to walk around the Waterfront and Market areas, and of course, visit my Husband Daycare in Saint John, Rocky’s Sports Bar.

The first thing we noticed as we left the terminal building, is that the huge tent that housed all the vendors is gone, replaced by this new Waterfront Container Village. We’ll check this out in more detail later on…..

We begin our walk over to Market Square. The streets around the waterfront area are quite hilly…..

IMG_6395-X2.jpg

IMG_6404-X2.jpg

Saint John High School is across from the Cruise Terminal, and up one block….

IMG_6394-X2.jpg

If you want to walk to the Reversing Falls, it’s only 3.4 KM away…..

IMG_6400-X2.jpg

This lobster place has been here forever. Excellent lobster rolls!

IMG_6399-X2.jpg

A couple of souvenir shops across the street…..

IMG_6402-X2.jpg

Here is the Carnival Legend docked in Saint John…..

IMG_6403-X2.jpg

IMG_6405-X2.jpg

The whole waterfront area between the Cruise Terminal and the Market Square has been stripped clean. Gone are the Craft Market and the Moose Statue that we used to pose with. The whole area is being revitalized into Fundy Quay…..

You're bringing back great memories, Jeff! We found Saint John to be one of the most welcoming ports we've visited. One year we were in port on July 4 and took a tour with a costumed guide - a "Loyalist." He had a great time making jokes at the expense of the "colonists."🙂

I kinda like the small portions, TBH. I guess the three shrimp is a little extreme, but the smaller entrees I'm fine with. Typically hubs and I get two apps each anyway. I also think this is a better idea for less food waste. Lots of times I want to just try something.

I agree because if I want to try 2 different apps or entrees, I don't feel guilty about not eating it all when it's a smaller amount to begin with. Yes, I was raised as a "clean your plate" kid, but I've grown out of that. Still don't like to waste food though! I mostly can finish all the smaller amounts unless an item is something I just don't like.

Oh, and I really love those little pork tartlets! We did miss seeing the nightly spring rolls on Magic a few weeks ago.

Someone at our table last week got those pork tartlets and I think my husband was jealous he didn't order them.

Both nights when I got the shrimp cocktail, I was lucky enough to get four shrimp!

Often, we will share entrees or order apps to split, things like that .We do it on cruises but also do it a lot at home in restaurants.

We went back to the cabin, as we were planning to watch our 4 pm sail away from our balcony.

At 4:30, Captain Mark made an announcement to inform us that there was an issue with one of the engines, and that we would be delayed leaving Saint John. Captain Mark also said that we would still make it to Halifax on time.

At 6:15 the Carnival Legend sailed for Halifax, Nova Scotia. We were able to get some sunset pictures as the Legend pushed away from the pier…..

We decide to eat up on the Lido again tonight. Patti made herself a salad, and I had two chili dogs and fries from the Deli.

Afterwards, we walked the ship, and then we stopped at the Alchemy Bar to hang out with Omer and Jenniel for a while.

Tonight, there are no comedy shows scheduled, and nothing else really interested us, so we went back to the cabin. Out on the balcony we got this cool picture with the moon reflecting on the water…..
