Updated Canada Regent pre test requirements?

Has anyone been able to get clear update from Regent eliminating preboard testing for cruises that include Canada?   I have asked both RSSC and TA and been told no changes but nothing online does still say we have to test if we are fully vaccinated.

We sail on October 1st

I have just received this from an online US travel agent

Today I would like to share some breaking news. The Government of Canada announced the removal of all COVID-19 entry restrictions and testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements for anyone entering Canada, effective October 1, 2022. Further, travelers will no longer be required to undergo health checks for travel on air and rail or wear masks on planes and trains.

Canada's restrictions caused a significant slowdown in bookings of cruises that called in Canada, particularly cruises sailing from the U.S. to Alaska. However it also said - Please note that cruise lines have not yet announced whether these new rules will apply to their remaining 2022 sailings to Canada/New England, which depart in October. (So doesn't really help you - sorry)

To do a Covid test before boarding in Vancouver gave us re assurance that we would be Covid free on our 21 Sep departure. Absolutely NOT the case, as we have been in isolation in our cabin since day 4 of this cruise. We are not alone as there now a few of us isolated. it’s now back to masks for all on board whom are allowed  out of their cabins, including crew.

Please people take responsibility for your conditions, social distance and wear masks and wash hands all the time.

It’s not a nice situation to miss out on over half your cruise because of Covid spread.

Suggest you get tested regardless for the following reason. Regent advises everyone to test regardless of ports or country. We are on Mariner RT Los Angeles to Mexico in 2 weeks. We got a notice from them saying no testing required for our cruise if you are vaccinated BUT you must have a negative test taken within 3 days of boarding in order for Regent to take care of you financially for expenses and lost cruise days if you do come down with Covid during the cruise. Therefore we will use on line proctored tests we have already purchased prior to our cruise.

But your travel insurance may cover these costs and would be first to go to…especially if you have preexisting coverage.

Yes, you are correct. Regent would cover after compensation from travel insurance, however AFAIK travel insurance would not compensate you for missed cruise days while you are quarantined in your cabin like Regent would. Either way, getting the test will give us peace of mind that Regent could be a back up for things our travel insurance would not pay, in exchange for the minimal effort of getting a test.

It would be very wise to get your negative test if they have recommended.

We have already missed out  on 5 days of our cruise in quarantine, due to picking up Covid. We boarded in Vancouver 21 Sep, everyone had  to provide a negative test, but this obviously is not fool proof.
We will allowed to leave our cabin to dis embark in LAX on 3 Oct. A total of 7 days missed on a 12 day cruise.

I can tell you it’s not very nice sitting in a port looking out and seeing people enjoying themselves when you can’t,  especially right now in SFO.

We did all the right things to get on this cruise, we are from Australia , and it’s cost us a bomb…yes we do have travel insurance , but do they cover $2000 per night.. No..they do not. Medication yes they will cover with a excess. This whole excessive has been a total waste of money and time for us.

So I strongly recommend to do as Regent advises.

@jessandarnie with you 100% on that one.  So sorry that you missed most of your much longed for cruise due to CV.  It is so important that we all take responsibility for getting tested before getting on board, not only for insurance purposes but respecting our fellow guests and crew too.  CV numbers are creeping up in Europe again. It's not going away any time soon.
