Sky Princess a food lover’s journey

We are off on Sky Princess today. We arrived at the port around 11:40 am and we were on board by 11:54 am.  We started off at the International Cafe to see if anything caught our fancy, then made our way to the buffet.  Our final food challenge before sale away was on to test the new Medallion food options. My favorite part of the food journey so far has been a section in the buffet dedicated to vegan and vegetarian options. The tikka marsala was quite tasty. More posting later but here’s some photos if you love food.

Let me start off by saying dinner did not go quite as planned. We headed down around 6:30 and got seated right away.  About 15 minutes later our waiter arrived. RM ordered baby prawns in a sauce as an appetizer. I had the Greek salad and the pina colada soup. Both were very tasty but took a very long time. For entrees RM ordered the roasted chicken and I ordered the vegetable risotto. After being in the restaurant a good hour and a half still without entrees we gave up headed up to the buffet and it was where we should have gone from the start. RM located a big slice of sirloin roast, rice, pasta, but not a piece of kale to be seen on his plate. I had a phenomenal vegan Caribbean black bean soup, kadhai vegetables paneer and I located a tiny flourless chocolate cake. Somehow a little square of coconut cake found it’s way onto the table as well.  The vegan dishes are fabulous.  So what started off as not a good dinner turned out very nice. Now onward to watch a movie.

What do you call a 4 am snack? First breakfast. Hearty vanilla bean latte served with a mushroom egg bite and an open faced grilled vegetable sandwich. Not bad for first breakfast. The bread for the sandwich was scrumptious.

Thank you for including us on this delicious journey!!!  I will be gaining 10 pounds - just from looking!!!!  Enjoy your cruise!!!!!!

Check out post #6 you will notice a small bit of kale in the mushroom egg bite. I’m certain it will not find its way onto RMs plate today. Although I did see a green juice thing that I’m going to try to get him to sample.

You waited at least an hour longer than I would have done !

I assume you must have complained at least four or five times during your wait - what was the excuse?

To give them the initial benefit of the doubt it was absolutely packed. Toward the hour and a half mark even RM got irritated and he’s not that kind of guy. In the end there was no excuse we just said forget it we now know not to go during rush hour. There’s not enough staff for serving, it’s not like it used to be. From what I’ve been told it’s that way across the industry. Tonight is sabatinis. Hoping service will be better. By no means do I blame the crew they are working very hard. I blame the upper crust.

Do you see any kale on RMs first breakfast? Please note I think he’s been bacon shamed it’s hidden under the hash browns.

I’m loving that your first food pics are of desserts

my kind of priorities 😋

travelling on the Sky Princess august next year. Never been on a Princess cruise before. These food pics are brilliant, thank you

husband is a meat & potato guy. Do you think the buffet has decent choice for a fussy eater? Myself and daughter will try anything though! I’ve tried to encourage husband to eat veg, but after 14 yrs of marriage, yep, given up 😂

The buffet on regal, royal and sky are incredible.  They have special sections set up for kids, vegetarians and they have theme nights.  I think our last cruise on the royal we ate at the buffet almost every night. It was better than the mdr menu.  You also can’t go hungry.  The app is great for ordering drinks and food wherever you are.

Sorry to hear about your "non-appearing" dinner. It all worked out in the end though.  On the first night, my husband and I rarely eat in the main dining room.  Service always seems chaotic, confused and slow  on that first evening.  You two were very patient - we would have left way before that.  I agree with Mittens101 though - not enough kitchen and wait staff.    Princess can and should do better.

Looks like Princess has improved on options for Vegans and Vegetarian even more.  Keep the wonderful photos coming.  That flourless chocolate cake is my sister's favorite dessert!!

The flourless chocolate cake has changed but it is still one of my favorites.  Sounds like your sister and I have a lot in common.

Wow great food and menu pics, thanks! We will be on the Royal so it won't be the World Marketplace but they will probably have similar things. And kudos to you for being patient in the MDR and then using the buffet for your backup dinner. We have done that before too, it's not like anyone would ever have a lack of food on a cruise ship 🙂
