I need some post cruise help

Recommended Posts

I’m cruising with my 97 year old mother at the end of January. I need to find a hotel that will let us at least check our bags when we leave the ship.  We plan to fly out the next day (Monday).  Does anyone who has cruised out of San Juan have any ideas?  We would prefer to be near the Pan American Pier. Usually I check my bags at Barrichinas and fly out the same day. Too much for her to do (and she can’t walk around port prior to check in).
I’m sure someone on here can give me an answer. I’ve been hunting and hunting. I’m even willing to do a day pass somewhere first if I need to .

thanks for any help

Most big name hotels will store your luggage for you if too early to check in.

Im thinking the Sheraton of the cuff right now.

Another option that I prefer to do is I actually book the room for 2 nights. It requires a little follow up to ensure they don’t give your room away, but it’s nice to get to the room real early and be able to relax

I don’t think I’ve ever stayed at any hotel that won’t hold our luggage early or keep it after check out if asked.  Have you actually been refused?
Have always been able to use hotel amenities as well.

The pier is in the general aviation airport, so no hotels near the pier.  There are a few cheaper ones near the end of the entry road and several around the Sheraton.  Beach ones tend to be expensive.  We prefer to stay out in the Carolina area north of the airport (Embassy).  This trip staying in the airport hotel.  Cheaper (even has a rooftop pool) but since we don't get in until after 10 made more sense than taking a cab anywhere.  If you have an early flight the next morning you also can't beat being already in the terminal.  No sightseeing from there, though.

Remember that all bags have to go through agricultural xray before they will check you in at that airport, so allow a bit of extra time for your flight.  But they also won't let you check bags more than 3 hours before flight out.

I've stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan and liked that hotel for its convenience to the town.

If you don't plan to do any walking around or touring of the forts etc, then the Embassy Suites in Isla Verde is a nice and spacious hotel. It's close to a  beach, (you can walk to it across the street) and it's also really close to the airport (about a 10 min drive).

Embassy Suites will be cheaper than the Sheraton, but the Sheraton is more convenient if you plan to do anything in old San Juan. Both should be willing to hold your bags until check-in.

Agree with the Sheraton Old Town....don't confuse this one with the newer (Sheraton) that has a casino. It should be a quick easy taxi ride from the Pan American pier to this hotel. We've done the reverse many times.
