We will be cruising Seattle to Tokyo in October 2023.  Are there any Covid vaccination requirements when disembarking in Tokyo?

Doesn't really matter what the requirements are today - that could easily change between now and October, and most likely will change multiple times.

As others have stated, too soon to tell.  No one knows how the metrics will turn out for Covid cases starting with next month's cruises, and how Japan will react.  Best advice, for the worst case,  is to make sure all your transportation, hotels, excursions are cancellable and refundable and continue planning.

We look forward to our trip to Japan and hope for the best.

Thanks for your response.  Let me clarify my question:  Does anyone know what the CURRENT (as of 3/10/23) vaccination reuirements are?

Hi Bruce

Thanks for the update.

What's the mask wearing situation around the various cities in Japan?  Are visitors still required to wear masks? Is compliance low?  How about the Japanese citizens in public? Do they continue to wear masks on the street, in the metro, elevators?

As of today - 11 February 2023 - Japan requires any foreigner entering Japan to prove a minimum of 2 COVID Vaccines. Cruise Ship crewmembers must have a minimum of 3 vaccines.

Thank you for your response.  I'd rather be informed and able to be incompliance than wait till the last minute.  Makes for a much smoother trip .

Visitors are not required to wear masks, although some businesses may not allow you to enter without one.

Many Japanese businesses  -especially restaurants - require you to take a temperature test at the entrance.

99.9% of Japanese people are wearing masks always.

On top of the vaccine requirements (which can be avoided by taking a Covid test), if your cruise or flight visits China, Hong Kong or Macau, then you will need a Covid test regardless of vaccine status.

Make sure you fill in the “Visit Japan” online form to speed things up when you arrive.

The most recent info (yesterday) we received from HAL indicate that those over 18 must have completed the "primary vaccination series" plus a least one booster ("total of 3 vaccination doses").  This certainly does not resolve the issue for those who got that single shot J&J thing.  But I am just quoting from the HAL protocol which is supposed to be based on the Japanese authority's policy.

And, unfortunately, the policy today may not be the policy tomorrow.  Argh!
