If the idea of going to Alaska is interesting to them, I recommend South to North cruise followed by several days on Alaska rail to see wonderful areas of Alaska not seen by ship. You can plot out where you go each day and spend the night in each city after each day's rail trip. We did this and really enjoyed it.

You can't really compare a fishing boat to a cruise ship, he may not be bothered at all, but to be prepared they can get Bonine OTC and ginger capsules, ginger candy, ginger cookies etc. Of course he should check with his doctor first. Green apples are always available also.

If they would like to go to Europe, Queen Mary 2 makes East and West trips from Cape Liberty NJ to Southampton UK back and forth, for much of the year. Queen Mary is quite a bit more sea worthy than cruise ships.

Queen Mary2 makes transAtlantic voyages from Red Hook in Brooklyn, not Cape Liberty, NJ.  EM

You are right, it's across the bay and about an $80 cab ride. My Celebrity and RC cruises are going in and out of Cape Liberty, my Queen Mary 2 TA will be coming into Red Hook.

I am not getting them to Europe.  Already tried that.  I am going to recommend that they look into Princess, HAL, or Celebrity.

Check out a US river cruise. We did two last year and they were both wonderful! You can be as active or lazy as you want. We did American Queen and they have bikes available for each port.  Viking also has some US cruises. Both are really enjoyable and so interesting!

We have done 1 US river cruise on American cruise line and recommend them.  It was a Columbia river cruise.  River cruises are about 2x as much as ocean cruises.  For seasickness we use bonine and ginger capsules.   For ocean cruises, we have cruised on RCI(Allure), Celebrity--several ships and Azamara.  We recommend all 3, but Celebrity or RCI would be best for your needs.  Only Princess and HAL go into Glacier Bay NP(permit req'd by NPS).

Yes, permits are required for cruise ships to access Glacier Bay, with only 2 ships per day permitted access. However, additional cruise lines have Glacier Bay permits, with the current permits valid until 2029.

In October 2019, the National Park Service, awarded 10-year permits to the following cruise lines - Princess, HAL, NCL, Cunard, Seabourn, Viking and RCCL. Note- RCCL did not follow up on the award of a contract, so still do not have Glacier Bay on any itineraries.
