QuestionEverything Posted August 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Need your help folks. I have posted before, this is my 1st O cruise. Starting badly. In Reykjavik, 17 day. Our, and many other rooms on 7, 4, 3 are overheated, our room is 85F. Had a tech in. Fans are being taken to inside rooms. We have talked with the 1st officer, reception, other guests. We have asked to be 1st on the list for any available rooms if we leave. You can not stay in the room. Q - what should we do?

QuestionEverything Posted August 13, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Hi LHT! Nothing, 0. Just was told by our waitstaff gentleman in the Horizons lounge, there is no AC in crew quarters as well. I think this voyage is sold out, so I suspect no options. I wonder if the ship will be delayed - this is a health and safety issue. I blacked out in my room it is so hot. People are mad, huge line up at reception and I have heard the 1 receptionist talk to many on the phone about the same thing. So very concerned for us and dear other folk and crew. QuestionEverything Posted August 13, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted August 13, 2023 (edited) I am in 7051, my room is 85 degrees, I have spoken to many on my side of the ship, everyone is upset. Edited August 13, 2023 by QuestionEverything
GICNJC Posted August 13, 2023 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Wet towels around the neck will assist with controlling body overheating. It is approaching a Health and Safety issue. If no update response from Captain, suggest contacting CDC.

I am so distressed about the crew area as they have no outside area to get relief. It is quite the situation

Best of luck, I hope this is addressed quickly.
RetiredLifer Posted August 13, 2023 #11 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Since it is presently 62 degrees in Reykjavik and you are in an A1 cabin, open the door to your veranda. That should help.
Nashna Posted August 13, 2023 #12 Share Posted August 13, 2023 The temperature in Reykjavik is currently 62 degrees. I would go outside and find a nice spot to stay. Perhaps, the Terrace Cafe might have shelter and heaters in place that would give you cooler temperatures. I can't imagine they can sail with this issue. I am on the same cruise next year on the Insignia so am very interested in how this is resolved. Take care!
QuestionEverything Posted August 13, 2023 Author #13 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Hello everyone. The heat topped at 89 in our room, we have not unpacked. They must be working on it, down to 79 now. We have opened the door to assist.Did not before as we wanted to see what the AC could do, diagnostics. Regarding health issues, I have breathing limitations, and the 89 degrees made me sweat and I passed out. There are many people and crew involved in this, it is not a small issue. I thank the many folks who have posted and taken time from their day. For us and others, not a good impression
EJL2023 Posted August 13, 2023 #14 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Can you feel cool air coming out of the vents? With it being 62 outside and you have now opened the slider that in itself would bring the temperature down considerably.
Rare ToxM Posted August 13, 2023 #15 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Gosh I am so sorry this is happening, and I hope they get it sorted for you (and everyone else!) soon. I would be taking my duvet onto a deck area or the balcony if it were me tonight and it wasn’t fixed.

QuestionEverything Posted August 13, 2023 Author #17 Share Posted August 13, 2023 Greetings. We are underway. About 1/4 of the ship, guests and crew, on the starboard side affected. They have fixed the A/C, but it took 7 hrs. It got much better when we opened the balcony door and underway. Spoke to others in my row of cabins, 7 deck A1, they are ok now. Some bit of cool air coming through the ceiling vent, not much. Nothing from O acknowleging the issue or apologies. So, the immediate issue is resolved. I thank you all for your posts and taking time from your personal life to assist others. I will post 1/2 way through with a mid way analysis. Good sleep everyone.
Rare LHT28 Posted August 13, 2023 #18 Share Posted August 13, 2023 If the A/C heat is fixed leaving the balcony door open may cause problems in your block
patty1955 Posted August 14, 2023 #19 Share Posted August 14, 2023 If it makes you feel any better, we had an AC problem on our Windstar cruise last year. We were in an ocean view cabin so no balcony. We kept the cabin door open during the day but sweated it out at night. They sent techs to the cabin 2 or 3 times to work on it, replaced the thermostat and it slowly got better. The was never any apology or compensation. I've read that this a problem on other sailings on the Star Breeze.

QuestionEverything Posted August 15, 2023 Author #22 Share Posted August 15, 2023 OP here. The AC is working fine now. I understood there were dozens of cabins involved and part of the crew quarters. Some one from reception did reach out and left a voice mail enquiring if we were ok. We followed up. Thanks to everyone who responded. "Many hands make light work". 3
