One time upgrade as Diamond

I’m turning Diamond in the next few cruises in Spring 2024.  
 

In Dec 2024, I see a free OV cabin which is a casino deal.  
 

My PCP says that I can book that OV now.  Then when I turn Diamond in a few months I can use my one time upgrade to a balcony for the Dec 2024 cruise.  
 

My questions are: how does one do this?

 

Do I need to call the diamond desk?

 

Can my PVP do it?

Just thinking out loud here, because I don't know how often you get free cabin offers, but is this the best bang for the buck for this one time free upgrade?  You're already getting a free cabin, even if it is oceanview...is there ever a time where you might have to pay regular price for a cabin, and this way you can pay for the OV and upgrade for free to the balcony?  Just a thought...there is no rush on using this offer, it doesn't seem to expire.  I waited years to use mine. 

 

And yes, you do contact the diamond desk.  I had booked and put money down on a balcony, and before I made final payment called to apply my upgrade.  They just adjusted the price so that I was paying for oceanview (just make sure oceanview is not sold out, so they can apply the existing cost).  Took almost $1000 off my original cost of a balcony, plus got to keep the balcony I had booked.

You’re right.  I do get several free interiors and OVs.  In fact, the strange thing was this was a deluxe OV with the 2 bathrooms. 😳.  I really hate to give that up but this cruise is to St Martin, San Juan and St Thomas and having a balcony would be great.  
 

My DH hates cruising but I was thinking that if I turn this into a balcony and get my one time free steakhouse dinner, maybe he’d go. I’m going to have to think about this.

I saved my one-time upgrade to use on a long cruise, so I got a good price on an OV on the Venezia TA and upgraded to a balcony for this 15 day cruise.  Then I received an offer to upgrade to a Terrazza cabana for under $200 for the two of us and snapped it up.  So I was in the Terrazza cabana for a very low price.

What is the phone number for the diamond desk. I might call and see if I can upgrade. Dream for January is showing as sold out but perhaps they had a few cancellations?

Well he said it's probably a no anyway if its sold out. But I'm 3 pts away and cant do upgrade until after I do the extra 3 pts which might be tight to get them in before jan. 

 

Even if I was diamond he said it's probably a no. It was worth a call. Might have worked.

Just be careful when upgrading your room. Sometimes you lose the casino deal.  Not sure about the Diamond upgrade.

I thought this as well but my  PVP says it’s available for an upgrade.  I was surprised too.

FYI:  I tried to use my Diamond upgrade and was told it can not be combined with a free room from the casino.
