Rare BirdTravels Posted September 6, 2023 Author #101 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Got a craving for some BBQ? Q is the place to go. BBQ and live country music that plays into the night. Go for dinner or just drinks and some country dancing.

It has been replaced with a “rustic French bread”. The Birds quizzed the waiter, Maitre D, and the Executive Sous Chef of Ocean Blue and they all gave the “party line” that it was an evolution of Ocean Blue menu and not cost cutting…. Farewell mascarpone bread… we will miss you An 'evolution' of the menu😦 Seems like it wouldn't be that much of a cost savings but I guess they look at fleet-wide instead of a special detail that added enjoyment to our Ocean Blue experience. (Now thinking back fondly on the original Bayamo menu....sigh....) The delicious mascarpone bread was a favorite of ours and we will miss it too... Thanks for following up with the Ocean Blue staff.
Rare BirdTravels Posted September 6, 2023 Author #103 Share Posted September 6, 2023 A great place for steak is Cagney’s! Al fresco dining is available, weather permitting. For colder climates, the out door dining spaces have ceiling heaters.

We used to like the original Bayamo menu when it was still run by Iron Chef Jose Garces and it was a more Latin menu and not Ocean Blue under a different name.
Rare BirdTravels Posted September 6, 2023 Author #105 Share Posted September 6, 2023 The best Mexican food at sea can be found at Los Lobos. The Birds fell in love with Los Lobos when it was first introduced on the Dawn. Don't miss the guacamole made table side for you.
Rare BirdTravels Posted September 6, 2023 Author #106 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Go to the Food Republic for a great selection of international small plates and sushi. Open for dinner and sea day lunches (which is when The Birds go). You get 4 plates for a specialty dining credit (which is enough for lunch).

I'm sure my opinion will be in the minority, but, that one item was probably the highlight of our experience at Ocean Blue last November.

Rare BirdTravels Posted September 6, 2023 Author #110 Share Posted September 6, 2023 For elegant French dining, go to Le Bistro. Gentlemen are asked to wear long pants (jeans or dockers), collared shirt (polo shirt is fine) and close toe shoes.
Rare BirdTravels Posted September 6, 2023 Author #111 Share Posted September 6, 2023 (edited) Welcome to Skagway. Due to the continued danger of rock slides, passengers are not allowed to walk on the dock and must take a free shuttle. When the ship first arrives, the lines are long (4200 passengers 20 people at a time). Shuttles to town beyond the dock are $5 all day (or it is a 3/4 mile stroll). The port has people stationed on the slide areas monitoring seismic activity, ready to sound the alarm. Rare BirdTravels Posted September 6, 2023 Author #112 Share Posted September 6, 2023 When in Skagway, the White Pass Railway is the most popular shore excursion and can be bundled with other activities.
depplep Posted September 6, 2023 #113 Share Posted September 6, 2023 I got an email from NCL yesterday stating my White Pass Railway excursion was changed to the White Pass Train going to Inspiration Point due to operational needs. I can't see what the difference would be other than the destination?
Rare BirdTravels Posted September 6, 2023 Author #114 Share Posted September 6, 2023 (edited) So,,, while the dock shuttle in Skagway is a pain, Majestic Princess (who is in front of us) is using their tenders to move passengers 100 yards around the slide zone. Notice the British flag on the tender, the Majestic Princess flagged in London. Edited September 6, 2023 by BirdTravels

Betelgeuze Posted September 7, 2023 #118 Share Posted September 7, 2023 We're sailing next week on our first cruise, nervous based on some of the recent reviews... @BirdTravels I would love to see the current beer menu at District Brew House and what beers are available elsewhere, hoping to find decent craft beer since I'm more of a beer drinker than hard alcohol. Can I order beer at District and walk around? Thanks!
