We will be embarking at Galataport in October and wanting to know if anyone had any problems getting through the port .  What paperwork was needed? Have read where some people had problems as they did not have a key card?

We disembarked at Galataport in June 2022, we had completed our 10,000 steps by the time we got out of the terminal.

It is a big terminal.  If you are coming via taxi make sure they drop you off in the cruise ship departing area.  It is on an upper floor.  You then drop your luggage off.  They will have dogs sniffing the luggage.  Then you can check in.   We were on Seabourn and they gave us a boarding piece of ticket.

You will then take an escalator down -- go through passport control.  Then down another level and depending on where the ship is located you will walk in the building then on to the dock at the appropriate point.  We were on the 1st bearth the the walk was short.  It could be 4 cruise ship lengths.

It is not that bad...  The big issue was finding a taxi that knew where they were going.

Thanks. Seems to be a lot of obstacles - all part of the adventure I suppose.

Just returned from a cruise oboard Quest from Istanbul to Piraeus. Embarkation in Galataport was a breeze! All posts above are correct, but... if you have a taxi driver that knows his/her way around, you will be dropped off underground which is where the actual terminal is. The taxi drove inside the terminal, was inspected by security guards and then allowed to proceed to the actual Azamara check-in terminal. Our suitcases were picked up curbside right next to where we got out of the taxi. 20 mins later we were onboard. The taxi company we used is Welcome Pickups.

We are arriving the day before for our cruise departing from Galataport. Any suggestions on nearby hotels we can walk to the port from or hotels that offer a shuttle?

The closest hotels are the JW Marriott, Peninsula, and a Novotel.  All are walking distance to the port.  However the embarkation point is inside the terminal and the distance would be considerable with luggage.   You can check the Peninsula (but that hotel is $$$$), they directly on the port.  The Shangri-la about 2km along the water used offer a Golf Cart service to the port.

We will have wheels on luggage and don't mind a walk as long as it is safe. It seems like Google Maps really doesn't show where the actual entrance is to the port. Also the street seems very busy next to the port

The whole port area is busy with thousands of people on a pedestrian mall with a 10 foot wall separating the people from the ships.

The port terminal is UNDERGROUND.  To get to it via taxi you access through the underground garage and the luggage is dropped off at the bus and taxi area, where it is sniffed by dogs and scanned.

The other way is to enter the port area and the terminal is located in Block D (the port is divided into blocks A through L (L is where the hotels are)

It is on Google do a search for Galataport Yolcu Terminali

The entrance for peds is a small door next to the ramp to garage.

We stayed at the Galataport hotel (found on booking.com) for 2 nights

It is a new hotel right across the street from the port and very close to restaurants and stores.

The tram is close by

Check it out,  not luxurious but comfortable hotel and priced right.
