Lunch On Carnival Venezia - Main Dining Room???

Greetings! I'll be sailing on the April 5th cruise of this year out of NYC.

For those of you who have already sailed on the Venezia, did they serve lunch in the Main Dining Room on sea days or is it strictly Brunch?

I sailed on the Carnival Legend last May, and on sea days they only did brunch.

However, I came across a blog from someone who was on the Venezia's transatlantic cruise to NYC which showed lunch menus from the main dining room.

Does this mean are they serving lunch on sea days in the main dining room, or is this only for certain sailings?

Only certain sailings - like transatlantic or other long sailings with lots of sea days. Then they might alternate between breakfast/lunch and brunch.

Thank you Blerk. The one I'm going on has 6 sea days and 4 ports of call.

On our 15 day journeys cruise with 7 sea days, they alternated between the Sea Day Brunch and Open Seating Lunch in the aft Canal Grande Restaurant. On the days that they had the Sea Day Brunch, there would also be a Pasta Bar in the Marco Polo Restaurant from noon til 3.

Interesting; thanks Jam.

I have a question....On most of the current Carnival ships they have stopped using table cloths in most of the dining rooms; is this the same situation on the Venezia?  I know it's a little thing to most, but I miss this bit of elegance.

This is our first cruise on carnival I can’t imagine no tablecloth,

Not because of the elegance, but I can’t imagine a table or what it would look like without a tablecloth on it, in the main dining room anyway.

Of course this doesn’t stop me from enjoying my dinner, I’m sure it is fine,  just curious.

Looks somewhat like a Red Lobster.

When they went to the no tablecloth look, they added new tabletops, that presented a finished wood like appearance (do not really know the composition).  While it was an adjustment, it is now the norm.  Not a biggie by any means.

This is interesting to know about NO tablecloths anymore, but no biggie. For those of you who have cruised on the Venezia within the last year, would you mind giving me the pros/cons of YOUR opinion of this ship? I have done several Carnival ships, and this one looks pretty good too, but would like to read more feedback on this ship.

Jamman54, thank you for suggesting that I check out you and Patti's review of the Venezia. It is a LONG one, but very enjoyable reading, as well as the many pictures. I will say I am pretty SOLD on doing the Venezia, NOT for as long a trip as you two, but 7 days, for the other 6 or 7 of us. I was so pleased to see/read about the lighthouse as well, as I love them, and in February, I was able to climb my "3" one in my life. I believe you mentioned you were not to happy with your last room steward, and we just got off the Princess Regal, which was very nice too, and our room steward Philip took very good care of all of us.  Once again, thank you.

Glad you found our review enjoyable and helpful. That's why we do them. We enjoyed the Venezia so much,  we're doing another 14 days on her in September. 😎

Having sailed on Horizon and Vista we were familiar with the layout of this ship but the details are much prettier on the Venezia.

- I will say Il Viaggio, the Italian specialty restaurant, is a true standout on the Venezia, the service and the food were far and away the best we had anywhere on the ship.

- We didn't mind the enclosed Lido situation, in fact I got way more specialty coffees on the Venezia because we generally stay on the Lido level so it was easy for me to grab a coffee in the morning without having to go downstairs to where the coffee bar usually is.

- The waterslide area was really disconnected from the rest of the ship, on the Horizon and Vista its an easy walk up the stairs from the Lido where you can grab a drink but on the Venezia you have to go through interior stairs/elevators to get there. Plus it was a real lackluster splash area for my 6 y/o, plus two of the slides were 51'+ which eliminated the ability for a lot of the 7 and under crowd from riding the slides.

- Smoking is really limited to deck 5 forward, and deck 11 aft, which means the smoke is largely contained to those areas unless you're in the casino and even my husband who is a smoker was offended by the lack of ventilation in there. Its a problem on this ship for some reason.

- Like other Vista class ships the site lines in the theater are terrible, I suggest going early if you want a decent seat/view.

- After cruising on the Mardi Gras and Celebration is hate the old deli setup in the back of the buffet. Its a bottleneck that moves sooooooo slowly. Unfortunately, sometimes your kid just wants a sandwich for lunch and you have to endure.

- I would definitely sail this ship again, if it was leaving from NYC. If I'm flying to Florida to get on a Carnival ship its going to be the Celebration or Mardi Gras.

My opinion is  "extremely pro".  We sailed Jan 2024.  I had the bar set really low....based on the great deal and great cabin I had.  What could I expect for "almost nothing"?  As it turned out....it was a perfect cruise.  Entertainment was good, brunch was very good....   Service was better than expected in the buffet (DH uses a cane so I generally am his butler....while I was running around for him, the staff was bringing him food).

The food in general was ok...nothing to write home about, but nobody starved.

Edited to add about the theatre:  As someone else said, get there early.  There was barely an inclination so if you're short, and not in the first row, you won't see much.

Jamman54 I  am just beginning to read your review. This is the first time on Carnival.

i see in one of your pics you are going to the first bar for your first drink. I heard if you have the drink package you can’t use it the day of embarkation, Is that true and why can I ask?

Really looking forward to this cruise!

Thank You

There are three embarkation ports where Carnival doesn't allow Cheers the first day. Galveston, New York,  and Norfolk. It's a Carnival thing, since other cruise lines do offer a drink package from those ports. There are probably fees involved which Carnival doesn't want to pay. You still can drink but you have to pay for each drink. 😎
